Nice hotel, issues with cleanliness

Posted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Room was OK but needs some updating. Extend housekeeping to balcony. When staff asks, "How was your stay?", staff could be less dismissive in response
Location: Many opportunities in and around Bend for recreation, entertainment and spectacular scenery.
Nice balcony overlooking pool with bird crap everywhere - chairs, railings, carpet - all filthy. Only one chair in the room - soiled and sprung. Old TV with horizontal lines through it.

Good hotel in vacation-land

Posted Aug 24, 2014
Pros: Late check-out time if that is helpful. Good breakfast in the hotel restaurant with many options. Restaurant was not crowded and acoustics were good
Cons: Better and more options for the free TV channels.
Location: Edge of downtown. Close to all services and recreation choices. Plenty of free parking. Easy access to highway for group or recreation activities.
4:00 PM check-in time seemed a bit late and the room was not ready. But no big deal as we simply went and had dinner nearby.

Reasonable hotel close to town

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: The outdoor pool was nice and it is fairly close to town.
Cons: Some of the buildings and furnishings are a little worn.
Location: I love being in Bend and spent a great deal of time outdoors, so the room was okay for a weekend stay.
The overall condition of the hotel is fair, at least for the room we were in, but the room was large and nice enough. We enjoyed the outdoor pool. The breakfast buffet was okay- not great. Otherwise we went elsewhere for meals.

Kitchenette room was awesome !

Posted Aug 9, 2014
Pros: Room layout, kichenette, fireplace, next to the pool, two pools in/outdoor, easy location
Cons: Do something with the river, geez, it's right in your backyard. Clear the brush, make a trail, sitting areas, decking = gimme a call, I do it all
Location: right off 97 before the Parkway exit
We stayed in a single queen kitchenette room and really liked it. I am a contractor and thought the layout was genius. It is a good size room with the kitchen in the middle between the bed and sitting area, great for any socializing you may do. There is room for 7-8 people to sit around as there is two tall chairs at the breakfast bar (has a wrap-around countertop) and two more at a tall table behind. Then you get a couch and a real papa chair in the sitting area, a fireplace, and modern lighting features. Just a well thought out room that you could do an extended stay if you had to. There is two closets, large dresser drawers, and mucho cupboards around the kitchenette. Couch folds out into a decent enough bed - more than enough for our 7 year old. We slept three = me, wife , daughter and room was plenty big enough... cheers, David

Decent place, good location

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Room size, view from balcony
Cons: An Itemized list of charges when you check out. I was only given a Credit Card receipt and when I asked for a list she seemed put out.
We apparently had one of the larger rooms along the river and the room was very big, almost a suite with a separate "living room" area. Deck over looking the river. Excellent space. The pools were in need of some work but both of them were decent enough. Breakfast that was included was typical hotel buffet and the people working in there were extremely friendly. The main problem I had and it really frustrated me was on Saturday night I went to the bar/lounge and sat down at the bar. There were 2 other people sitting at the bar and and maybe a total of 15 people in the whole place. When I sat down the bartender didn't even really acknowledge me which I thought was poor. She was talking with another person at the bar, fine. I sat that for 7 minutes (remember I'm one of 3 people sitting at the bar) she never once looked at me or acknowledged my presence. She was standing 5 feet away from me. I ended up leaving because after she flirted with a different person who walked up to the bar and still ignored me. At some point another bartender type person was there helping her, cutting up limes...he too ignored me but he was clearly taking direction from this bartender. After she finished her flirting with the new person she walked in the back room, it was pretty clear that she had no intention of providing me any quality service so I left. I guess I shouldn't expect much from a Shilo Inn bartender but it was almost aggressive in the way she ignored me.
