“Very enjoyable stay, hope to return!”
I stayed in Room 40 (a standard room) for 2 nights and had a very enjoyable stay. The room is on the 4th floor and therefore features a sloping roof on one side of the room. The room was fairly small in size particularly given the lost space due to the roof, but as I was travelling alone it was fine for me. The decor in the hotel was lovely, very classy with warm, rich colours. The bed was probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in, felt like pure luxury and comfort! I had a laptop with me and wireless internet access was free and needed no passwords/codes, although the signal was pretty weak at times. The breakfast buffet only had a limited selection but that is to be expected from a small hotel with only a few rooms, otherwise there would be a lot of waste. What was there was very nice and I certainly had enough! The location of the hotel is absolutely excellent and I would definitely return - it would be a great place to stay for a romantic weekend away, especially if you booked one of the deluxe rooms or suites and had more space and the roll top bath... ;-) Nowhere in Norway is cheap and certainly Det Hanseatiske Hotel is not the cheapest in Bergen, but I would highly recommend it.
“Cool boutique that isn't up it's own ***”
Family owned and run by 2 brothers. Totally cool. Fun and helpful staff. Great location (you couldn't be more central) and comfortable rooms. Only issues were that there was no Wi-Fi in the rooms and the bathroom furnishings were a but 'too cool' to be functional resulting in insufficent shelf space for toiletries and water spraying everywhere.
“A friendly, centrally located boutique hotel”
The hotel is centrally located, 2 minutes walk to the cable car station and very close to the waterfront. Staff were very friendly and helpful. One morning we had to take an early ferry and would miss breakfast. When the staff found out she offered to serve us breakfast 1/2 hour early than the usual time. As advertised the hotel's got character. Some rooms are bigger and some are smaller as constrained by the original layout of the building but there's everything you need in the room. The staff are very attentive to your need. We thought Norway was very organized in their tourist industry so we tried to book everything in Bergen: like the Pulpit Rock tour. But the Bergen tourist office did not have much info on other areas so we had to wait till we're in Stavanger to get info and booking. So one should spare more time for making arrangment.
“loads of character”
The location couldn't be better: right on the Bryggen area and very close to the market, the funicular railway and the shopping centre. This is a wooden hotel with a real warren of rooms. Ours was roomy, with an excellent modern bathroom. The breakfast buffet was excellent. As others have commented, you will hear some noise from the streets at night, but this is to be expected given the location. Recommended!

“Brilliant Bergen”
We arrived from the airport at about 2.00 and the only complaint that I could make in the whole stay was that our room wasn't ready. It's a lovely hotel and right in the centre, a little noisy at night. We really enjoyed our stay, breakfast was yummy.
“Great Boutique Hotel”
We had a junior suite on the 4th floor. The hotel is tucked away next to the Hanseatiske Museum down a short alley off the main street. It was very quaint and comfortable. The building is 310 years old. The bathroom was exceptional with arched clawfoot tub, separate glassed door shower, two lavatories and very high end facuets. The bed was very comfortable. While we did not eat there, it has a nice restaurant on the 2nd floor which offers a discount to people staying there. The front desk staff was very helpful. While they don't have a computer for guests to use, they did allow me to use the front desk computer for a few minutes in the evening to check in at the airport and to check my email. The location cannot get any better in Bergen. We were across the street from the fish market, and less than a block from nice shops and restaurants. The room was quiet but had no view, being on the back side of the building. We thought this was the nicest place we had stayed in in quite a while.
“Small hotel, great location”
We enjoyed staying at the hotel. It is in a historic building close to the Bergen historic harbor area. Breakfasts were very good. Recommend this hotel for adult travelers who have done their own research on Bergen & Fjord tours. Front office has limited manning. Limited access to internet-connected workstation.
“Vintage Bergen”
This is not your regular mainstream hotel. This aged boutique hotel has blended its elderly charm with modern upgraded washroom facilities. The glassed elevator was very much appreciated. Although a bit of a walk from the train station or airport bus dropoff its location is in the middle of it all, Fish market, Funicular, the water and their downtown. The included breakfast was located in a quaint heritage room with suitable and ample offerings. Worth the stay in this small coastal town. You should seek out dinner reservations elsewhere and in advance as the hotel did not have their own facilities. Many restaurants don't open on Sundays.
“quaint little hotel in bergen”
great place to stay - except that the wifi internet did not work - the owner kept insisting it was a glitch with my laptop but in my stay in paris just prior to this hotel stay & also just subsequent to this hotel stay (at two different paris hotels) the wifi worked seamlessly on my laptop - so glith was definitely at the hotel - major setback having no in room internet access for a business traveler like myself!
