We stayed at the Claremont so that we could attend the Berkeley Business School graduation ceremony. What a treat!
Great view of the bay from a large, well-appointed room, comfortable bed, good coffee at the GrabAndGo breakfast and staff who remembered your name (Well done Nellie!). The Claremont is a grand old hotel but it still works very well.

Price was reasonable for a city and area like Berkeley. Rooms aren't large but big enough. Very clean and well appointed. Bed/pillows were great (the main thing to look for !) Breakfast was good quality (no pun intended !) w/a good selection of foods. Area around the hotel was fine for walking in the daytime ... didn't walk at nite but driving around the area at nite it didn't look dangerous. Didn't watch much TV but when we did there was a good selection of channels to "surf". Staff was pleasant and helpful. Bathroom was clean and in good repair
Having said this ... we would stay there again w/no hesitation !

This was a step back in time in an incredible building. I spent much time wondering the halls looking the beautiful architecture designed by Julia Morgan (of Hearst Castle fame) and antiques that filled it. I had a wonderful view of SF bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. I also stepped outside on the exit balcony and had a incredible overlook at the Cal campus. Room was sparse for modern gadgets including TV, plugs but very comfortable but that only added to the nuance of the stay.

An older quaint hotel ...it was quiet and safe. Near many great pubs and restaurants. Staff was great. Room had coffee but no creamer sugar but i was thankful for the coffee. No hair dryer but i had my own. Shower was AWESOME. Bed was okay and standard for most hotels i stay at. Will definitely go again when in that area

Beautiful view, beautiful surroundings. The breakfast buffet was to die for. The gentlemen that checked us in asked if we were there for a graduation and I told him we came to attend my grandson's graduation from UC Berkeley. He gave us breakfast vouchers for the three days we were there. And there were three of us and extra one for my grandson. Location to UC Berkeley approximately 15 minutes. Bay bridge is close by if you want to venture over to San Francisco. Going over the Bay bridge to SF not bad; toll $ 4.00. Coming back was an nightmare. We got caught in rush hour traffic. Hotel was everything I hoped it would be. I would have given it five stars for room comfort if it had a micro wave.

The hotel isn't in a very nice or exciting neighborhood but, if you don't mind walking, you can get where you want to go. Our room was spacious and clean. The TV worked well with lots of channels. The free breakfast wasn't remarkable but very adequate. We did not have a view except for another exterior wall and there was some litter in the parking lot that should have been picked up. The staff was pleasant and accommodated my request to extend the check out time by one hour without additional fees. We ate dinner at a restaurant near campus and walked back to the hotel from there at night and it was only 1 or 1.5 miles. In the morning I walked toward the bay and explored the area and that was about 1 mile from the hotel. For the money, and just one night, the hotel was perfectly fine.

The city’s radical spirit has endured at least on Telegraph Avenue by the UC Berkeley campus. Upscale shops have moved into the once industrial Fourth Street district. Foodies flock to the Gourmet Ghetto, which began in the 1970s with Chez Panisse. Berkeley Hills’ residents enjoy bay views and access to Tilden Park’s 2,000 acres. Visitors to the marina can stroll on the pier and explore the parks.
