Newbury centrePosted Jan 28, 2015
Pros: It was quiet at night
Cons: See my notes above
Location: The location is hard to find at certain times of the day as so many cars visit the shopping complex.
The reception and bar area is very welcoming, the staff were polite. The room was not what I expected at a Hilton. Some wallpaper off the wall in a corner next to the bathroom; the shower was very difficult to use, it kept slipping and there were no instructions to assist; no information about the TV use, no free WiFi, a worn-out sofa with an armchair in a different colour; the window let in the cold air and there was no lift available,(very difficult if you had a load of suitcases. We come to Newbury several times a year to see my son and our grandchildren, but we will not use this hotel again, so its back to the Regency.

Smart HotelPosted Jan 12, 2015
Pros: Breakfast (although not Buffet style-as Hotel wasn't busy) was excellent
Cons: The carpets seemed a bit dated, and the pillows were most uncomfortable.
Lovely hotel, welcoming staff, excellent breakfast. Would reccomend this hotel

bit run down but cosy and relaxingPosted Nov 18, 2014 on Hotels.com
We've stayed here on a number of occasions and yes it's a bit run down and a bit of a throwback to the 80's but the positives outweigh these things. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the rooms are warm, comfortable and cosy. Breakfast is very good and good value. Eating in is pricey but there are plenty of options nearby or in Newbury.

Perfect for a one night stayPosted Nov 10, 2014
We were attending a wedding nearby. The hotel was ideally located for us. It gave us all we required - a clean room, helpful staff and a great breakfast.

Poor room. Horrible sofa bedPosted Nov 2, 2014 on Hotels.com
When i booked the room online, i rang up and asked if a family room included a sofa bed or a single bed. I was told it included a double bed and a single bed. As i have back troubles a bed was essential. When we arrived we were given our room key. The room was in a terrible condition. Very poorly decorated, unclean and there was a double bed and a very poor condition sofa bed. I rang reception and explained the situation. We were told that family rooms didnt not include single beds only sofa beds but she would upgrade us to a deluxe family room with a better sofa bed. I was not pleased with this but the deluxe room was a vast improvement. The sofa bed was much better and the room was cleaner and decorated nicer.

Shame about the wine!Posted Oct 21, 2014 on Hotels.com
Overall, a very pleasant stay and friendly helpful staff. I couldn't help feeling a little indignified over the price of a glass of wine though, which my partner enjoyed nevertheless. However, let's get real here, £9.70 per glass!! I've heard of "mark up" but that is going a little too far!

Good positionPosted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: The breakfast. The room.
Cons: A better understanding of the English language by the staff.
Location: Very good location near retail park and superstore. Not much else nearby but a short taxi ride into Newbury centre with all facilities at hand.
Good position near retail park, and major supermarket. The breakfast was superb, second to none. The Thai curry from room service was bland, and nothing resembling red Thai curry which is strange as the same meal on the menu at the Aberdeen Hilton Treetops is perfect. The evening meal in the restaurant was okay, but nothing special and the steak was stringy and good to take back for a dog. The staff were very helpful if a little slow. On the whole, the hotel was well positioned with a comfy feel and we would recommend it and would return again, with the right deal.
