Vineyard at Stockross - Exceeded Expectations

I reserved this hotel for a short business trip because the others that I typically stay at were full. I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It's more upscale in many ways including the rooms, staff, restaurant and amenities. It's close to major business and dining needs via taxi. The standard "classic" room was very comfortable and spacious, and the bathroom was large with stone counters. The only minor issue for me was I'm not a fan of the shower setup which is in a bathtub that's high off the ground and only has a half glass partition meaning water easily sprays everywhere. I would definitely stay here again. The staff were very helpful and professional, and spoke many languages.

Worth a stay

We booked here bec ause it was my birthday, and had read that the restaurant had 2 michelin stars. The chef had left, and taken the stars with him, but still it was well worth being there. The quality of the food was excellent, but the service of it needs to improve dramatically if they are to get their stars back. Somehow, this hotel is less than the sum of its parts, but I hope that they can pull that round, as there are many good points to make an enjoyable stay

The Vineyard At Stockcross

Nice hotel but the stardard room was a bit small for the the price. No flat screem TV. Most importantly there were no tea and coffee making facility in the room. For these days, I think this is unacceptable. Food in the restaurant were very good. And the wine list was long, you need half an hour to read them all. Not the best hotel I ever stay in. For the price they charge, you can not call yourself a 5 stars hotel without tea and coffee making facility!!

Wonderful surprise weekend

I booked the Vineyard at Stockcross as a last minute bank holiday surprise for my husband. I was very pleased when we arrived at the hotel and found we had been upgraded to a suite without even asking! The room was very spacious and bright with a fantastic bathroom with Molton Brown products. We decided to make use of their spa so finished up a little too late to get into their restaurant. We took a drive out to find a local restaurant, only to find that we were literally in the middle of nowhere and had to drive into Newbury to get food, and this was only at 9.30pm on a bank holiday weekend! However, breakfast the next day in the hotel was wonderful, one of the best smoked salmon and scrambled eggs I've ever had! The only slight let down was that the TV in our room wasn't tuned in properly and the aerial didn't seem to be working, the picture was grainy and the TV set was tiny for a 5 star hotel! But, who needs a TV when you're on a romantic weekend away? There was also a note in our room saying the bottled water was complimentary, but there wasn't any water in our room, something that was fixed with a quick call to reception. Overall it was a wonderful stay, the hotel staff are great, beautiful surroundings and excellent food and spa facilities. Not sure what the standard rooms are like, but their suites are great. I'll make sure I book the restaurant in advance next time and make sure I have a good walk around this wonderful hotel.
