Great budget hotel very close to Haupbahnhoff
Posted Jan 18, 2013
Pros: Proximity to station and shops/restaurants on doorstep
Cons: Sharing a loo and thin walls
Location: Genuine 10 minute walk from Berlin HBF. On other side of road from station so cross it early. Must climb 2 sets of stairs to get to reception.
If you want or need to stay near Hauptbahnhoff then this is ideal. I stayed two nights, as planned. It is an old hotel. My room had shared toilet, but own shower. This was no problem. The walls are thin, so if you have a noisy neighbour it could be a pain. I didn't. Across the road is a supermarket open early to late, and just outside the door three bar/restaurants. The one i used was good and friendly service and incredibly cheap. For a hotel close to the station this was far less dodgy than i feared. Genuinely only 10 minutes walk from station ... But it is on opposite side of main road, so cross it quite early so you don't miss the hotel. Overall i thought it was just great, especially for the price.

The only thing that I did not like about the hotel is that it did not have a refrigerator in the room. Other that this, it was not that bad. FYI though, there is only one bathroom for an entire hall, that was kind of disturbing at first, but it turned out that every time that I needed to use it, it was available. However, one bathroom for about ten rooms is highly unacceptable!

Pros: location and quiet
Cons: pillows
Location: very good
location for city break in Berlin was ideal, there was reasonable restaraunt directly below. the room was basic but for the price was ok. it was very quiet which aided sleeping clean but the pillows and i can,t stress this enough were awful. i could not tell the staff as no one spoke english.not thier fault i was in Berlin after all. s6 i fashioned one out of the spare quilt. job done. for the money with good access to the major sites i would go again but please city inn BUY SOME NEW PILLOWS!

First choice for a budget stay in Berlin
Posted Jan 3, 2012
Pros: Compfy bed and pillow
Location: Great location near Hbf and Brandenburg Gate
Near to main station, 12mins walk. Quiet undiscovered area of Berlin but really convenient in every way. Near to a couple of restaurants. Would stay there again

Smallish but okay.

The room was clean, location good and staff friendly. Only down side was that the room was a little on the tiny side and it could be tricky to move around my luggage, but frankly I travel to see what is outside my room, not the room. But if you're only after a room with a shower (and a toilet shared with one other room) then this hotel is fine.

No air conditioning and rooms with too much furniture. Stairs were dirty and not well kept. Friendly front desk staff.

Close to Train is the only benefit

The hotel is located in a bad neighborhood. If you go down the street one block you get a chance to see the Berlin Prison and all its barbed wire fences!! To get to the reception office you have to climb 2 flights of stairs. There is only ONE room that has both a shower and bathroom. The other rooms are only beds and a shower. This means you share a hallway toilet with everyone else on the floor. The receptionist was VERY nice and helpful. Her english was average but she gave us maps and circled everything we asked her about. The rooms were clean but very old. If you would like AC or a room phone, this is not the place for you. Since we were only there to rest our heads and get a shower, it wasn't too horrible. I wouldn't stay here longer than one night.

Free internet is deceptive

The building is cute, the rooms are small. It is an old building, which is totally ok, but it makes the free internet nearly impossible to take advantage of unless you sit in the stairwell and work on your computer. Also, the courtyard is very live with sound, so if you are a light sleeper don't plan on choosing this hotel. On the other hand, the convenience to public transportation and only a ten minute walk to the Hauptbahnhof is great.

Great Budget Accommodation
Posted Jan 21, 2012 on Hotels.com
We stayed in a two bedroomed apartment. The apartment was immaculately clean although the decor was dated. The apartment had to two bathrooms with fantastic showers in both. Both the bathrooms were very modern. The kitchenette was adequate for our needs. Excellent supermarket (Penny) directly across the road - excellent prices for food. Towelschanged/ beds made up 4 days out of our 5 day stay. Heard no noise from other guests apart from a door being closed. There is noise from the traffic on the street. The receptionist when we booked in was not all that friendly, however the receptionist when we checked out was exceptionally lovely. The hotel and apartments were located within a residential building. The hotel reception is on the second floor and the apartments were on the third. However there was a small lift. The location was only 5 to 10 minutes from the main station which was great to get the airport express train back to airport. I was hesitant to book this hotel after reading the reviews, but the apartments were adequate, clean and the location was great. I paid a budget price so I did not expect anything more. The area was safe and for myself and two teenage children. Fantastic city to visit - loved every moment (even when it rained!) I felt Berlin was the safest city I have ever been to on my own with kids. I had no worries about us being out at night. I will definitely be booking this hotel when wereturn to Berlin - hopefully soon!
