“Very Close to Zoo, Kurf'dam and Memory Church - the heart of West Berlin”
Although there were a few hotels closer to the core of Kurf'dam St.(the heart of Berlin shopping), this one is only a few blocks away and out of the mayhem just enough. The lobby was very nice and regal. The room was clean and plenty accomodating. My only complaint is that the room (and its technology) was a little dated (the clock was built into the headboard - that's 70's!). It would have been nice to have free internet access in the room as well. Overall, great starting point to see Berlin.
“Very good hotel”
Stayed between Xmas and New Year. Good position not far from zoo and easy reach to all main sites. Bus 100 (tourist bus) stops right at the hotel.
“nice, clean, comfortable”
the hotel is in the heart of west Berlin, great location, clean, friendly, confortable, cheap. Of, course don't expect amenties on the level of American 3 star. I had a single bed, no coffee maker, but who needs it in Europe anyway. I needed a place I can crash and take a shower after being out for 18 hrs enjoying Berlin.
“Berlin, Sylter Hof”
Nice hotel, centrally located. Comfortable big room with kitchen! The furnishing is a bit old and worn. Nice staff.
“good value for your money”
Hotel was nicely situated and close to e.g. a nice Vietanamese restaurant with great service. The room was big and the bed was comfy (I'm very picky with beds and they have to be soft enough). Pretty small bathroom though and there was something wrong with our bathroom door so it wouldn't close without a loud bang. We were too tired to complain since we only stayed there two nights and basically only came to the room to sleep. Hotel was very quiet even though they were renovating the lobby. An ok place that I recommend for those who need a nice, clean and quiet place to stay close to everything and for a reasonable price.
“Austere, but practical and clean”
Berlin is such a big city, that a hotel that is near the train/metro station such as this one, is pretty much the key to go around. It is near the zoo, so I managed to see the famous Knut polar bear. There are several restaurants in the area, not great ones, but interesting ones. There is also a fancy department store and a second-hand clothing store within walking distance. As for the employees, they tried to be helpful, but were not too successful: i.e., I asked for directions for a laundromat, but I couldn't find it, and apparently, it was pretty far from the metro station where they told me to get off.
“Good value for the price”
Accommodations are spartan, but clean and adequate if you don't plan to lounge in the room. Desk staff courteous and helpful - came to the room to assist with TV hook up. One small hitch occurred when I requested a room off the street and asked that my bags be moved while I was out. They put me in a smoking room. Luckily it wasn't too bad, but be sure to restate room type preferences if asking for a different room.
“It was good enough to return”
We stayed 3 nights at begining of August. The room was clean and large. Actually we got upgraded to a suite for free. They were having some renovations in progress but it was down in the reception areea. We were not disturbed by the noise at all. Overal impresion was good.
“Great for single travellers”
Most hotels tend to charge those travelling on their own a tiny bit less than a double room. Not so this hotel, and consequently I usually use this hotel whenever I am in Berlin. Single rooms are small but with good bathrooms. The beds are single but the room is spotlessly clean and the desk staff very welcoming. The location is excellent and the Ku-damm is a short walk away.
“Great Hotel in Berlin”
This hotel is very nice. The rooms are clean, but I did get stuck with a smoking room when I requested non-smoking. The rooms are slightly run down, but the location is great.
