Quality hotel in good central location

Posted Jul 12, 2014
This hotel lacks only one thing to make it perfect which would be a swimming pool. Other than that the hotel's location, room and public are comfort and cleanliness are superb. Glad we chose to stay here rather than West Berlin as location for all sights, restaurants and bars as well as the train station and under ground is perfect.

Location, location, location!

Posted Jul 3, 2014
Pros: Its proximity to Museum Island and public transportation
Cons: I had problems with the free wifi - lots of failed sent emails
Location: Easy walk to Unter der Linden and all the sights to see from there. 15 minute walk to Check Point Charlie & 20 minutes to Potsdam Platz.
I chose the hotel for its proximity to Museum Island - it was perfect. It is also steps from the Friedrichstrasse U-ban and S-ban. This means that you can get anywhere in Berlin without any effort. While the hotel does not have a business center with computers available, the front desk was terrific about accessing my email to print off a voucher that I had forgotten to print at home. The front desk also printed out our boarding passes even after Swiss Air threw me and them a curve ball. They were gracious and thorough. The Tapas Bar restaurant was a pleasant surprise both price wise and food quality wise. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Berlin stay

Posted Jun 27, 2014
Pros: As above
Cons: Free unlimited wi-fi
Location: Excellent location, near to the central train station, river spree museum island etc. Great eateries etc
Hotel was perfect for our needs, very central, hotel staff very pleasant, clean rooms etc. My only gripe that in 2014, there is no unlimited free wi-fi.

Centrally located and near variety of transit

Posted Jun 21, 2014
Pros: The location was excellent being next to a variety of transit options.
Cons: There was no business centre available at time of stay, however the front desk/concierge were prepared to assist with printing boarding passes.
Location: Transit (U-bahn, S-bahn, Tram, Riverboats) all within 1 block, so getting to any sight/location is a breeze.
Overall: Excellent! The hotel is modern, well maintained, and definitely worth staying at given its condition, service, and location. Customer service was courteous and helpful. The rooms were clean and maintained throughout the 3 night stay, so housekeeping was on the ball. The room faced the courtyard, so any street noise was more far removed/near non-existent. The only mention for FYI would be that the sink/shower hot water flows fast and is very hot, hence be careful. I would stay there again.

Brilliant location for many historical sites, next to.river spree. Walking distance to museum island, tv tower, Brandenburg gate, checkpoint charlie, the wall, jewish memorial, museum of terror etc. Also close to restaurants and shops. We didnt eat in hotel as it seemed pricey compared to other restaurants. Standard hotel room a lovely size and bathroom modern with up to date fittings. I brought travel kettle as saw none in room. We didnt have a lot of conversations with.the staff but they seemed very professional.

Ideally situated

Cons: A kettle in the room please.
My husband and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Melia. It was so easy to get to and from Berlin schonefield airport on a direct train to friedrichstrasse bahnhof just yards from the hotel (not that there was any noise in our room from the trains). The room decor was fresh and clean, as was the bathroom. My only teeny tiny criticism is that there wasn't a kettle in the room to make a hot drink. The staff were very helpful. Location wise, on the river the hotel was central to a number of Berlin's main attractions being about a 10-15 minutes walk from the Reichstag to the west, checkpoint charlie to the south and the museums to the east. In terms if value for money, the hotel was excellent.

A Berlin gem

Posted Jun 18, 2014
Pros: Breakfast buffet was terrific.
Cons: That extra room for breakfast should be set up more regularly because the buffet does get crowded.
Location: Two blocks up from the main street of Unter den Linden, it is ideal for visiting the main sights.
I have stayed at the Melia a number of times in the course of the last 10 years. I think it is outstanding and seems to improve all the time. Centrally located, its rooms are large and it's staff consistently helpful.
