My sister's room had major bugs. All buildings need major updates. Wifi spotty at best. Gorgeous location.

It's a good hotel but very dated.

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Clean and has a pool
Cons: Needs to be completely updated.
Location: Elbow beach hotel Coral beach hotel Horshoe bay.
Surf side is a good hotel if you are looking for a basic clean room in Bermuda. It's pretty much no frills but clean and in a good area. There is a pool and very nice beach. To get to the beach you have to follow a long path down the cliff. We stayed there for price alone. Everything else is soon expensive. We also never spend much time in the room so it's just for sleeping and showering after a fun day somewhere else. No breakfast and a small bubble tube TV. Maid service is weak at best. Paint is peeling off building and water pressure in the showers is weak too...but hey who cares when you are out all day and night.

Great views. Great location.

Pleasant, helpful staff. Clean room. "Private beach access" claim is exaggerated. It is small and a bit of a hike. Facilities not in prestige condition, but we had a very nice overall experience.

Great location on the south shore

Posted Jun 12, 2015
Pros: The location was good but some distance from tourist attractions and restaurants. Necessary to take a bus or taxi. Staff was friendly and helpful
Cons: Painting the outside would help and new furniture is definitely necessary
Location: Nice location with great ocean views Necessary to travel to attractions and restaurants.
Location was great but hotel was rundown and shabby. Paint peeling on the outside and old worn furniture on the inside. It was kept clean and the grounds were well kept, but the building and the rooms need a serious upgrade.

Nightmare "hotel" with no beach

Posted Jun 8, 2015
I showed up to check in at surf side after a day of traveling and hadn't eaten all day. When I asked if the front desk could recommend some nearby bars or restaurants, they told me to go to the gas station to get snacks! I went to my room to try and research restaurants only to find the wifi wasn't working. I tried walking down the beach to see if I could find a restaurant only to discover that their "beach" is a bunch of rocky bolders at the bottom of a sheer cliff. The staff didn't help me with my bags at all and the pathways were narrow and rocky. The villa itself was like something out of a horror movie -- the towels were actually falling apart, the linens were disgusting, the vibe was more like a creepy abandoned cabin at a summer camp in a horror movie as opposed to an "ocean front villa". Needless to say, I checked out immediately, only to be told by the staff that almost all their other customers do the same (check out immediately and go to a different hotel). They informed me that the new owners haven't maintained the hotel in years, shut down the hotel's only restaurant and bar (located at the creept run-down pool), and have no plans to renovate anytime soon. Worst experience ever!

view, manager brill the rest disgraceful !

Flight excellent, taxi to hotel ( our own as hotel does not supply one) excellent. On arriving at hotel in evening a rather unfriendly woman showed us where to go..we had to carry our own bags up several concrete unstable steps, past pool. My mother is a fit 83 yr old but steps were terrible. Room was musty and something out of the 1950's. Cooker not safe. Rust on all appliances. Mould in bathroom, towels old and thread bare. The door to balcony extremely old and could barely push it open. THE TABLE ON BALCONY WAS METAL RIMMED BUT RUSTY AND BROKEN AND DANGEROUS, YOU COULD NOT SIT AT TABLE WITHOUT SERIOUS CUTS TO ANY PART OF BODY. BALCONY COVERED IN BIRD EXREMENT. LOUNGE CHAIR MISSING SEVERAL SLATS SO COULD NOT SIT DOWN. BALCONY WOODEN FRONT WAS MISSING SEVERAL PIECES OF WOOD AND ROTTON, TOTALLY UNSAFE. SAID THERE WAS A SMALL DINING ROOM/RESTAURANT (HAD VIEWED THIS ON LINE). NO PLACE EXISTED TOTALLY DERELICT. NEXT MORNING WE COMPLAINED AND WERE MOVED TO ONE GROUND LEVEL BETTER ROOM. I HAVE PICTURUES OF THE TERRIBLE STATE OF THE WHOLE PROPERTY. YOU CAN ONLY GET TO BEACH IF YOU CLIMB CONCRETE FALLEN WALLS, VERY DANGEROUS. YOU COULD BARELY RECOGNISE THEPLACE AS THE ONE ADVERTISED. FURIOUS.

Very dated very very

Posted May 25, 2015
The only good thing was that this place has a private beach and the ocean view is just amazing! The place is too dated, everything very old. The new owners dont want to do anything with place which is a shame as it use to be spectacular with jacuzzi, restaurant and a bar. Location is perfect too as you get Elbow beach 1,5 km away or the other way WRwich bay, national park and the mst famous beach Horsebeach beach :-)

18 visits to SurfSide

Posted May 21, 2015
Pros: Gorgeous views, privacy, singing frogs, crashing waves, lovely landscaping, functional kitchen, great people.
Location: Excellent access to bus system. Beach was beautiful on this stay; when it isn't it's a short ride to excellent beaches. Very close to railway trail.
We've just returned from our 18th annual visit to SurfSide in Bermuda. The gorgeous views, beautiful landscape, natural peace & serenity are amazing. The staff are truly lovely people - they would love to restore the facility to it's full potential, but under the circumstances, they will make every effort to help you appreciate the real beauty of their privileged setting. You must be honest with yourself to make the best choice for your vacation: if "dated" furnishings and imperfect amenities would ruin your trip - you'd be happier in another setting. If the most beautiful, peaceful, private, natural ambiance on the island is your style - this is the place. We love it and we'll be back. Thanks Mrs. Harvey, Brian, and team - we love you and we love Bermuda.
