Perfect Location for accessibility to whole islandPosted Jan 24, 2014
Pros: Location and proximity to bus stops. It was only 15 mins to Hamilton Bus Terminal by bus and 30 mins to the Naval Dockyard.
Cons: The hotel was a little run down and we had some issues with the doors being a little hard to open and close.
Location: The location was breathtaking! The hotel is situated on a cliff and we had an amazing view of the beach down below.
My friend and I participated in the Bermuda Trianagle Challenge January 17-19 and decided to extend our stay for four more days. It was off season so not all the restaurants and shops in the area were open but we had a fabulous time. The Bermudian people were so friendly and helpful. The food was top notch - although expensive. Safety was not an issue. The beaches on the south shore were amazing and we even found a couple of seaglass beaches that were not widely known. The weather was quite good for the time of year. We had a couple days of rain and the rest of the time was sunny.

Nice clean hotelPosted Jan 16, 2014
I stay for 3 nights in Surf Side beach hotel. The room is spacious and clean. They have their own beach, but sadly i can't visit during my stay because of the high tide. But it near to the other beaches, so no problem. Easy to get around, as the bus stop is just in front of the hotel exit. The front desk sell the bus token. This is a self cater hotel, so no restaurants in the hotel. There are few eating place nearby, but usually i just go to town. The staff are very helpfull. No wifi in room, but at least we can use it for free in the front desk. Over all my stay is ok. You get what you paid for.

OldWorld CharmPosted Nov 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
Had a suite with kitchen bedroom and sitting room. Woke up to the sounds of the sea and beautiful view of the Ocean. Staff were always helpful during the two weeks we were their. There is a small beach at low tide, reached by a path which takes you down 300 feet. If you are looking for modern all inclusive accommodation this isn't for you. If you want Old World Charm and dining out you will struggle to better it for the price.

Not worth the pricePosted Nov 23, 2013 on Hotels.com
The people at the front desk and the view are nice, but that's about it. The place is completely run down and dirty.

It was ok. I was only there for 1 night. There isn't much in the area to do for food or drinks after 9pm. The pool and the view are nice though.

Surf Side SerenityPosted Sep 26, 2013
We've discovered Surf Side on our 13th visit to Bermuda. Lucky 13! We are independent travellers who are comfortable taking care of ourselves and found this to be the a lovely base to explore and enjoy the wonders of Bermuda. The staff responds quickly to every request. While the decor is "dated", it is clean and romantic in an old-style fashion. The kitchen is supplied with an array of cooking tools. The balcony views are some of the best on the island! The pool is clean and comfortable with sun or palms and porticos for shade. The beautiful landscaping is a haven for nature as well as a visual delight. After staying in everything from luxury resorts, to B&B's, to apartments on Bermuda, we'd say that Surf Side is one of the last, true, serene Bermuda escapes. You are walking distance to restaurants and gas. You are within 5 mins. of Elbow Beach Resort's elegance, moped rental, and the South Shore beach cornocopia. It's an easy drive to Hamilton. You are essentially in the middle of it all, yet peacefully above "it" all (the magnificent coast/sea) for a fraction of the cost of larger, pretentious options. What you will not have is a swimable beach, on-site restaurant or sundry shop, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, or Frette linens. What you will have is simply tranquil.

3 star hotel, but nice location and peoplePosted Sep 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel is a little tired, but the location, views, pool etc are all excellent. Gas station, bus stops and restaurant nearby. Rent a scooter and get out there and see some stuff.

Our 22nd trip to Bermuda took a turn for the worse when my husband fell and ended up with 2 fractured ribs. We are not youngster, but young at heart and with that injury we could not rent a scooter and were at the mercy of taxis and buses. Then we had tropical storm Gabrielle hit on our 3rd night followed by 2 days of mostly rain. And yet, we had a very nice time. Glad our large room was on the first floor. Others mentioned it was dated, etc. It's Bermuda - the room was fine. Wish they had access to the beach. Pool was very nice. Never crowded and Wi-Fi only works at the pool and office. Glad we had such awesome views of the ocean. Had some wonderful meals, did some shopping, even went to the cinema on Fri night in Hamilton (very close to the bus terminal) Love the tree frogs, the smell of the blossoms, the friendly locals. Brian at Surf Side took care of our every need. He was very concerned about my husband's health and looked after us throughout our stay. Surf Side is lucky to have Brian. The location is central to the South Shore beaches- be sure to be thoughtful and take a towel to sit on if you take the bus with a wet/damp bathing suit. The only minus for us, was the long walk from our room to the end of the road to get the bus - almost 2 footballs fields long. With a scooter it would not have been a problem. Our trip was not exciting, but we were there to enjoy the Island and relax. Hope this review helps.
