We arrived late and picked up our keys for the room from the front desk. There was no hotel staff at that time. We went to the room and found out that the key card reader was missing. So we couldn't get into the room. We called the emergency number and the person at the other end said that he was in Zurich and couldn't help us. He said he doesn't know anything about how to contact the hotel people. We were desperate. By then it was midnight. We finally managed to find a room at Hotel Merkur in Biel. They have staff at the hotel 24 hours a day. It was a very good hotel and the same price as the City Hotel Biel. We have never seen such a terrible hotel as this City Hotel Biel. They do not care about you and they can leave you stranded.

It was very convenient to the train station but the old city was the other direction but still walkable. The breakfast was great.

Very good restaurant and breakfast. Room a quite big but the bed wasn't so good. However, quite good hotel for a business trip.

Relaxing stay
Very convenient for work, and has own parking! Recent refurbishments are great and decor pleasing. Food has improved quality/choice and a substantial breakfast. Very relaxing.

A great find in Biel!
City Hotel is conveniently located near the train station and offers true single rooms, so you're not paying for space you don't need. The breakfast was good, and the front desk staff was extremely helpful. They let us keep our bags at the desk until check-in, recommended great nearby restaurants and gave useful information about the spa across the street.

Good breakfast with variety. Drink station of coffee and tea available any time. Friendly staff. Walking distance (5 to 10 minutes) walk to train station, and walking distance to lake Biel. Room is large , basic but clean. Not air conditioned. Good value for money.

Never again
No airconditioning with temperatures of 35C. No seperate room for shower. For Bfast had to ask for ham and cheese and juice. Was brought exactly 4 slices for 2 people. No more. Chef came out and took the last remaining bread roll infront of us, while we were still having breakfast.

Great base for Biel
Good hotel - good breakfast and short walk from rail station. The only point I would highlight is it was very hot when I stayed. Whilst fan was provided it was still very hot at night. Would use again if staying in city - but may avoid in exceptionally hot weather !

Favourite stay for work in Biel/Bienne
Renovated since my last stay- very tasteful. Very convenient for work and comfortable. Good food and service. Would advise a room away from the main road if a light sleeper.

Hotel has been renovated since it was the Continental. (The bus stop outside the door is still 'Continental' so don't be fooled). If you are arriving by train and not overburdened with luggage leave the station by the back entrance and the hotel is a very short walk through the office development. The room was basically the same as before, but the bathroom was much improved. However, in my room at least, there is still no air conditioning which could be a problem in mid-summer. Opening the windows would not be an option owing to likelihood of insects invading from the nearby lake. Excellent buffet breakfast included in rate available from 06:30 if you need an early start. Computer terminal with printer available in lobby - no problem checking in for my flight and printing boarding card.

Best place, close to train station
It was a spacious room, big bathroom. Location was great, though Biel is a small town out of main cities, yet we had Swiss travel pass so location suited us.

The hotel room resembled a jail cell.
No facilities, no air conditioning, no fridge. The cleaning is sub-standard, leaving the coffe cups dirty where I left them, not cleaning the bathroom properly. The only good thing I can say is that the receptiin staff were nice and accomodating.

Great Stay - full marks
Arrived early - room ready, always a relief when you've been travelling for quite a few hours. We requested a room with minimal walking and were allocated one directly opposite the lift - excellent. We also requested a 'walk in' shower, not available, but we were provided with a small stool to assist entry/exit from the bath, again excellent. Very well positioned, bus right outside the hotel. Considering the breakfast was included in a very competitive price ( for Switzerland!) it was very good, great selection. We stayed a week and had a complete linen change mid way through. The room was always very well serviced. Reception staff always helpful, particularly Roman, whose assistance in printing my return boarding passes was invaluable.

Best Western Biel
Unfortunately the hotel was being refurbished and my corridor stank of paint which infiltrated into my room. There was also noise like drilling in the evening. Traffic noise is also an issue. Trucks can be heard from 4 am so ear plugs are a necessity at least for me.

the hotel was newly renovated and nice. The staff very helpful and the room very clean. Room size small bathroom a closet. Sheer curtains and no shutters so hard to sleep with street light and normal light.
