“Impersonal, big-city experience in cozy, small town”

If you are looking for a charming hotel in charming Grindelwald, don't stay here. Service was impersonal and personnel hard to find and poorly informed. We assumed, based on many experiences elsewhere in Europe, that people at the hotel would be able to answer most of our questions, make recommendations, and direct us quickly to what we needed. Instead, we found that no one was ever at reception (although there was a phone on which you could call someone). There was information in our room which we didn't discover until it was basically too late to be useful. The breakfast room was open for tea in the afternoons, which would have been lovely and a chance to meet others, but no one told us about it. The refigerator (we had a small apartment) wasn't working. When the receptionist came to help, she provided none. She pretty much just threw up her hands. We hunted around on our own until we found a plug hidden in the back of a very high cabinet. It seems she might have known where he plug was located. Nor could the receptionist answer basic questions about the charge for extending our stay or for making phone calls. We ate in several other hotel restaurants nearby during our stay and all of these were charming and helpful. Unless you are looking for complete solitude, don't stay here.
