Next door to the Guggenheim.

Posted Sep 14, 2014
Pros: Spacious rooms and good location.
Cons: The hotel might want to decide whether guests are more important than revenue from weddings.
Location: Next to the Guggenheim. Good bars and restaurants nearby. 15-20 minute walk to the old town but an interesting walk.
Warm greeting at check in. We were provided with a map with places of interest pointed out and advice on local places to eat. Sadly not all staff were that helpful with some decidedly disinterested. The room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped with good storage. We went to the roof terrace for a drink and had amazing views of the Guggenheim which was one of the selling points of the hotel. Unfortunately that was the only time we got to use the terrace as for the next two days there were weddings and the terrace, sun beds, spa facilities and top floor restaurant were closed to hotel guests. This was a real shame and made it a less than 5 star experience. There was another bar and restaurant available but without the views. The proximity to the Guggenheim is great and the museum is stunning. There were also good local bars and restaurants in the vicinity including a restaurant called Porrue just round the corner with an excellent tasting menu.It was a 15-20 minute walk to the old town which involved a pleasant walk by the river. Bilbao itself was an interesting city with friendly locals. We had great fun going from bar to bar eating Pinxtos Noteworthy places to visit include the Philippe Starck Alhondiga Cultural and Leisure centre. Overall the hotel was great with the downside the restriction on using the full facilities.

Awesome hotel with amazing veiw of the Guggenheim. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The wall between our beds and the bathroom had blinds but we were unable to close these, so privacy inside the room was an issue. Breakfasts were delicious. Overall a fantastic hotel and would have liked to stay another night or two.

A little style over substance

Posted Jul 10, 2014
Pros: The design
Cons: Curtain system between guest room and atrium.
Location: Right opposite the Guggenheim so great for all 'tourist' links. Airport transfer stops in adjacent street. Superb park a short walk away.
When you arrive at the hotel, the interior is stunning. The front desk staff were superb and we were really looking forward to seeing the room. The room was adequate and nicely designed but I think the designer forgot about function. Also, our room looked out onto an atrium. This was fine for the short period that we were there but I would prefer a room with a window. We only used the ground floor bar and this was a nice environment to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. We did not eat in the hotel as 26 euro for breakfast seemed a bit steep.

Location!

Pros: Location!
Location: Perfect; go to the Guggenheim; stroll through the lovely park by the river, just by the museum; have a drink on the hotel terrace; eat at Porrue.
Reasonable price and perfect location, across from the Guggenheim Museum; what could be better?

Pros: Everything was excellent but the shower which is a litlle small because shares the space with the tub that is great.
Location: The terrace has an incredible view of the Museum
Everything was great but staff not at the same level of other 5 star Hotels that we stay at.

GREAT location and great service. The restaurant is on the more expensive side, but the hotel was very reasonable and the room was large and comfortable. Service was GREAT :)

Easy to get to..valet parking if you have a car...no concierge, but reception staff were very helpful re directions and dinner reservations. Breakfast was excellent and the best tea and coffee of a 2 week trip.
