Old building, new renovationPosted Nov 7, 2013
If you like old structures on the National Register of Historic Buildings, then this is the place for you. The guest rooms are in need of carpeting and some things like that, but I was told that is the next project when the meeting room project is completed. The plumbing needed some TLC (slow drain, slow flush), but I would not hesitate to stay at the Tutwiler again if business or pleasure brings me to Birmingham again.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at our hotel I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate your feedback and we’re very sorry you were unhappy with the look of our guestrooms carpet. Your feedback is incredibly important to us. On the other hand, we just started renovation all of the guest rooms which includes new carpeting for all of our rooms, so if you visit us in the spring there should be all new carpet in the room. We hope to have another opportunity to serve you, if your travels bring you back to our area so we may show you the improved quality accommodations you expect and deserve.

Staff was very accommodating ...Posted Oct 30, 2013
This was my 3rd stay within a 45 day period. I must say, I did experience problems with my first stays without much help to correct the problems. My 3rd stay was a much better experience during my 6 day stay. My room location was off the beaten path ( 100 steps from the ice machine....had time to count them each day), next to frequently used exits ( doors sounded like they were broken. The sound level of was extremely loud. There was some kind of truck with a large hose running into the front side of the hotel for 2-3 nights. It was awful!!! The staff were cordial each day. However, they don't seem to know the area and therefore, can't suggest eating places, etc. Because of the location, and the reduced price I was able to get from Expedia (the main consideration), my stay was successful. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay. I am so pleased that you chose to stay with us while visiting Birmingham for the third time and that you found the staff very accommodating. I regret that an outside disturbance disrupted your evening. As this is truly an isolated incident I would hope that we can welcome you back again to show you the true service and amenities that we strive for. Thank you again for sharing your experience with us. We look forward to welcoming you back next time you visit Birmingham.

Downtown ConveniencePosted Oct 11, 2013
Pros: The staff was friendly and efficient. The historic hotel is beautifully restored and furnished. The breakfast provided was adequate.
Location: Downtown Birmingham - strolling by the nearby vintage architecture, the park across the street, BIrmingham Museum of Art.
I've stayed at Hampton Inn in Salem, and quite happily my Birmingham experience means that I have double reason to recommend Hampton Inns. The Tutweiler Birmingham Hampton Inn provided a superb overnight for my sister and me. Our focus was to visit the Birmingham Art Museum and the Civil RIghts Institute, and we did so from the convenience of this lovely historic hotel.

Historic Hotel in Downtown BirminghamPosted Sep 16, 2013
Great hotel in downtown Birmingham. The Tutwiler is a historic hotel that has been updated and is owned by the Hilton family of hotels - The Hampton Inn and Suites. It is very reliable as far as cleanliness, comfort, and condition. Only negative is there is not a lot to do around the hotel. Only a couple of restaurants within walking distance, no nightlife, etc. Beautiful park close by.
