Only critical comment: At check in, swiped credit card. Room already paid for. When returned home, saw that £60 deposit had been taken. Rang hotel & will be refunded but feel that I should have been told at the time that deposit was being taken and would be refunded. Otherwise, excellent stay.

The hotel was in a very central location, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were very efficient. The only minor problem was that my friend had a room at the front and she was woken up by traffic at 4am but she is a light sleeper. I was very happy with the hotel.

I was really pleased with this hotel; around Smallbrook Queensway is busy and grubby but it's not a bad area, not scary to walk around (I was there as a lone female), sufficiently busy, and easy to get from there to anywhere else in central Birmingham. Inside the hotel was lovely, and the room was fantastic, well-equipped and clean and housekeeping popped by to see if everything was ok (not sure how regularly they do this, but nice to show they make the effort). The area is busy with a major road, but I didn't have any trouble with traffic noise; there was a thermostat in the room and that fan probably made more noise than the traffic but it's great to be able to choose room temperature and I haven't seen this in many hotels. Staff were polite even when I got lost - the only negative point was that I was on "floor 1" and was told to get in the lift and press button "1". That sounded odd and I could see why when I took the stairs (not a fan of lifts) and up one floor I couldn't see any bedrooms - but back in the stairwell the floor was labelled "1". Apparently the floors are r, g, s, c, 1, 2, 3... so it was four flights of stairs, but the stairs were still labelled 1, 2, 3, 4. I guess most people get the lift and don't worry! All in all I'd thoroughly recommend the hotel and would love to go back.

The hotel was in a excellent location for shopping and nightlife. The hotel standards were great and all staff were extremely friendly. The modernness of the hotel was also excellent and the room size was perfect. Would definitely go back to the same hotel and would strongly recommend it.

Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre - Extremely satisfied with our stay at this hotel, i just wish i knew about this little gem sooner!!!! The hotel is REALLY nice inside, rooms are nice and big with appartment style feel. Bathroom nice, and bed really comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable, very nice full english. Location is spot on :) This is next to the Radisson, and just as good as the higher classed label.

“An excellent stay for a city centre hotel.”

I was very pleased with my stay, which was for one night for a re-union. I'd stayed about ten years previously and had pleasant memories, so had no hesitation booking again. The room (a double) was compact but not cramped. All the usual comforts were available, tea & coffee with biscuits, flat screen TV and good air conditioning. Something new was the choice of pillows! The bathroom with walk-in shower was well fitted out and very clean. I didn't use the restaurant in the evening, but the buffet breakfast was to a very good standard.
