“Excellent value-for-money hotel, high ity”
I was really pleased with this hotel; around Smallbrook Queensway is busy and grubby but it's not a bad area, not scary to walk around (I was there as a lone female), sufficiently busy, and easy to get from there to anywhere else in central Birmingham.
Inside the hotel was lovely, and the room was fantastic, well-equipped and clean and housekeeping popped by to see if everything was ok (not sure how regularly they do this, but nice to show they make the effort). The area is busy with a major road, but I didn't have any trouble with traffic noise; there was a thermostat in the room and that fan probably made more noise than the traffic but it's great to be able to choose room temperature and I haven't seen this in many hotels.
Staff were polite even when I got lost - the only negative point was that I was on "floor 1" and was told to get in the lift and press button "1". That sounded odd and I could see why when I took the stairs (not a fan of lifts) and up one floor I couldn't see any bedrooms - but back in the stairwell the floor was labelled "1". Apparently the floors are r, g, s, c, 1, 2, 3... so it was four flights of stairs, but the stairs were still labelled 1, 2, 3, 4. I guess most people get the lift and don't worry!
All in all I'd thoroughly recommend the hotel and would love to go back.
