excellent, clean and friendly staff. could not believe what we got, considering the cheap price!! Definitely recommend this hotel.

The staff were very friendly, theres lots to do just up the road. We had a lovely time.I actually stayed for my cousins wedding which was at the portland, it was great, food was lovely, drinks were reasonable it made the day!-breakfasts also nice.The rooms might not be anything special buts they were just what we needed, I could have stayed longer!!

“value for money”

I use hotels just for sleeping in and on that basis I could not fault it. It was easy to find, clean, comfy. Bar was opened for us when we got back about 11-1130pm and staff were very friendly. Didn't get chance to eat as I was in B'ham for family meal and the 10am check out took me by surprise although it is clearly marked on key card.Room had phone, TV with only 5 channels, hairdryer and kettle with supplies for tea coffee.Also a radio alarm. Bargain for the price. On good bus route to/ from town centre.Menu of asian type food looked really good and I would try to eat there if I stayed again. Though £9 was a lot for breakfast but I didn't see it so can't comment really.Lots of free car parking at hotel.Area appears a bit dodgy in parts.

A great stay booked last minute and booked into room at 2pm room was clean also hotel said i could have breakfast, one of the best value for hotels I have stayed in and would go there again

“Very spacious rooms, comfortable but very thin walls”

The rooms were very spacious so you did not fall over each other or your luggage. Some fittings could do with being refitted. However the walls seemed rather thin. Overall, it was a comfortable two night stop over.

“A Fine Basic Hotel”

I have read a lot of scathing reviews about this hotel which I feel are unwarranted. Yes, it is a basic establishment. It's not unclean in the main but it is a bit worn in general. There's a lot of free parking. My room was small but fine and adequate for my short stay. It was warm, bed a bit too soft, TV worked fine. The free Wifi reception was a bit sporadic in my room and worked fine in the reception, lounge and dining area. Breakfast was also basic but was fine for the very reasonable overall price of the stay. Small selection of cereals, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, lots of hot drinks in general. I would stay again if it's a short stay for business. I have stayed at this hotel several times before.

“What do you expect for the price!”

Portland Hotel try to convince you that they are the busiest hotel on Hagley Road because they are the best. Staff are good and attentive, rooms are warm but stink of stale cigarettes. There are burns all over the carpet. The bed was clean, the bathroom was clean. It's seen better days. The full English is srambled egg, bacon, sausage and hard tomatoes. Everyday. There are cereals and toast and the usual tea and coffee. It served it's purpose. I probably would not stay at this hotel again.

“First and last time in Birmingham”

This hotel is dated and in need of a complete revamp.The rooms are clean and reasonably comfortable. The food is good, and could not be faulted. The staff are friendly and helpful.
