Extremely disappointingPosted Oct 23, 2013
Although the hotel is in an exceptional location and the facilities themselves are impressive, upon closer inspection the decor is quite tatty and in need of updating. The room was not properly cleaned (there was blood on the bedsheets), even after a complaint was made. Some of the staff were extremely unhelpful and the general level of service was very low for a supposed luxury hotel, e.g. we waited 15 minutes for assistance bringing out suitcases in from the car before giving up and doing it ourself. Even if everything had been of the quality expected, it should be noted that the hotel is extremely expensive. The room rate itself is at the top end of the range expected for a busy tourist area. On top of that, the charge for WiFi is the highest we have ever come across anywhere in the world, and even then only allows access for one device.

Fairmont refreshes...Posted Oct 20, 2013
Pros: Traditional old school country theme, but not ''stuffy''.
Cons: Grounds are glorious, but just a little unkempt...
Location: Bush activities ... Segway tour/play was fun ....
Very pleasant experience, just unfortunate that noisy conference participants were in attendance.

Great facilities for kidsPosted Oct 13, 2013
Pros: Facilities for kids- games room, play room Clean, tidy and friendly staff Indoor heated pool and spa
Cons: -Small kitchenette needed in room with at least a microwave -Face washers need to be supplied in bathroom -Hard to change channels on TV with remote
Location: Scenic World Katoomba- enjoyed this day out. Renovations and new railway are great. Also liked the miners hut etc. Jenolan Caves - fun day
We recently stayed at the Fairmont for our 10 yr wedding anniversary with our 2 children aged 6 and 4. We were impressed by the facilities for the kids eg. Games room, play room (ball pit, slide), and indoor heated pool and spa. The outdoor pool was closed for cleaning/ repainting deck but probably too cold anyway. The room was nice but would have been better with a kitchenette with a microwave and some cutlery and plates etc. We had to use the bathroom sink to wash out coffee cups etc. The fridge was tiny so could not store much of our own food which made it inconvenient and we could not afford to eat at the restaurant every meal. Also no face washers were supplied in the bathroom which we would have liked to use on the kids. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would look for a hotel with kitchenette next time for convenience with kids.

Disappointing. Seen better days.Posted Oct 5, 2013
Pros: Setting and location
Cons: Management of the resort needs an overhaul
Location: Blue Mountains, Scenic World, lots of walks, quaint village in Leura , cafes and eateries.
This hotel has a beautiful setting with huge gardens and ponds. The resort is old and in need of urgent attention. There were broken tiles on the footpaths, unswept leaves in the corridors, broken machines in the games rooms, broken hinges to our window so that we could not open the window to let him fresh air into our stuffy room. Lots of outside areas appear to be unused and unkempt littered with broekn BBQ's and old childrens train carriage. The reception staff was not helpful or welcoming and did not volunteer any information on the hotel facilities or give direction to our rooms.

Beautiful surroundings and grand hotel.Posted Oct 2, 2013
Pros: Spacious hotel and magnificent surroundings.
Cons: There is some little noise in the heating/water pipes drumming. The "Embers" restaurant that we dined at was quite draughty and cold.
Location: The Leura Centre Street is absolutely delightful, full of little lovely shops, restaurants and coffee places.
We arrived quite late, around 9pm. The room that we requested was unavailable, but our upgraded room was prepared and waiting for us. It was very spacious and comfortable. Though it was already around 9:30pm, we still had a lovely dinner in one of a few restaurants at the hotel. And only in the morning, when we opened the curtains, we realised the full extend of a natural beauty and exquisite gardens surrounding the hotel. We truly enjoyed our stay.

NOT WORTH THE MONEYPosted Sep 3, 2013
Pros: The grounds are well kept and a pleasure to explore.
Cons: Employ more staff when the hotel is heavily booked.
Location: Sublime point look out is worth visiting.
We stayed for a week end. The staff at reception was unwelcoming and disinterested both at check in and check out. We had booked a room with king bed and another with two single beds. The room with king bed was half the size of the other room, had two single beds put together for a king bed !! The walls were thin so that we could hear noise from the room next to us. The worst experience was in the restaurant for breakfast. There were not enough staff to cope with packed restaurant. The hotel appears to be accepting visitors who are not hotel guests, for breakfast , at the cost of guests staying at the hotel. We spent more time queuing for food than eating. Ten minutes at coffee machine !! Tables were not cleared fast after people left. It was a total chaos. Hardly any hot food for vegetarians. Although refurbished the building still needs a lot of work done.

Everything was really good here, I'll return.Posted Aug 25, 2013
Pros: Pretty much everything. Any improvements as per below would add to the price. So a trade off really.
Cons: More staff on reception, and concierge services upgraded, and breakfast included in the Expedia rate. Cloth napkins replacing paper in the buffet.
Location: Great tourist location for walks and Blue Mountains area, plus Golf of course.
Everyone I spoke to said this place had a very bad reputation a couple of years ago. The new management has obviously turned this around. I have stayed in a couple of better hotels internationally but had to pay a lot more for it. This is a really nice place to stay in all respects, and excellent value for the price. I was visiting friends in the area so was there for only 1 night. I will return though with the family for a few nights and enjoy the region next time I come to Sydney.
