Heritage hotel with style, class and service.

Posted May 26, 2014
Pros: Restored grand heritage building. Location. Staff, excellent service.
Location: Echo Point (go in late afternoon when sun is on Three Sisters and no tour coaches around) Scenic World. Coach tour to Jenolan Caves.
Stayed here whilst exploring the Blue Mountains. Impeccable service befitting the grand building and facilities. Located in the town centre two minutes walk from the train and regular bus to Echo Point, Scenic World etc at the front gate. Room rate included continental breakfast with option to order cooked items.

Writers Festival

Posted May 22, 2014
Pros: Character, Cleanliness
Cons: More bar staff during intervals of the sessions
Location: There are lots of restaurants of different kinds of food. The cultural centre is very close.
What a great place for the festival and even a greater place to stay. We enjoyed the experience immensely and will most likely come back next year. Would be nice to get a discount for a returning customer

Expected better for what we paid

Posted May 10, 2014
Location good for railway station but the hotel is way past it's heyday and a bit tired. Bed was particularly uncomfortable (too soft for me) and room could have been warmer and cleaner. All in all costly for what we got.

Art Deco pleasure

Posted May 6, 2014
Pros: The Art Deco historic design.
Cons: The management needs to employ more people especially concierge staff so you can be helped up and down the challenging front stairs with luggage.
Location: I can recommend the art gallery and its pleasant cafe. Some nice shops in the town with local artisan work. Mountain adventures also abound.
This was a pleasant stay overall but the whole place has a rather faded grand old lady quality about it. They have tried so hard with the renovations and the stained glass is spectacular. I arrived during a downpour and there was no one to help carry my bags and keep me dry ascending the challenging front steps. They did help me get up to my room which was quite spacious and comfy, if a little dark and musty. I arrived a bit early so I had lunch in the bar. The service was slow and the whole catering arrangements were rather confusing. The deli/liquor barn in the grounds was quite impressive and this historic hotel was well positioned in the heart of Katoomba, quite a nice little town. I think the hotel might be a nice romantic place for a honeymoon couple.

A Grand Old Maid of the Mountains

Posted May 1, 2014
It was everything we expected it to be, though we were disappointed that the Grand Dining Room (their caps) was closed mid-week. However, we had an excellent meal at the Old Bank Brasserie next to the hotel, and owned by the Carrington. We are now looking forward to a return visit when we can sample fine dining, Carrington-style.

If you are looking for Old World Charm & Ambience

Posted Apr 27, 2014
Pros: The Old World Ambience
Cons: Air conditioning in all the rooms
Location: Very central to restaurants, supermarket and tour bus stop
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had one of the Balcony rooms which had a panoramic view. Can recommend Dinner in the Dining Room which we thought good value and added to the whole experience of this Grand old Hotel. Only negative was lack of air conditioning. Didn't bother us this time of year, but wondered how we would cope if in a mid January heat wave.

Absolutely loved it's colonial charm.

Posted Apr 15, 2014
Pros: EVERYTHING !
Cons: Some of the fittings were in need of repair but that is understandable in an older hotel.
Location: Right in the middle of Katoomba Street near train and buses making it so easy to access all of the beautiful scenic sites of Katoomba and surrounds.
I loved my stay at the Carrington. I had lived in Katoomba in the 60s, as a child, and had always promised myself that "one day I would come back and stay there". The Carrington fully lived up to my expectations, friendly staff who did everything to make our stay perfect, lovely colonial room with a view, wonderful atmosphere and beautiful dining in the Grand Dining Room. The Carrington is also in such a convenient location, right in Katoomba street close to shops and the railway station. Also loved the deep old colonial bath in our room. I would recommend the Carrington to anyone who enjoys beautiful surroundings, colonial style and excellent service.

Lovely old world charm

Posted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: It was like stepping back in time. Spacious and elegant. Comfortable lounge areas with fireplaces.
Cons: It would be good to see the Grand Dining Room being open more nights. There was a piano in the lounge. It would have been nice to have someone playing.
Location: I was travelling with my elderly mother so it was good to be close to cafe's and shops and within close proximity to view the mountain sights.
I chose to stay at The Carrington because of it's central location and also because I had been there for pre dinner drinks the last time I visited the Blue Mountains and enjoyed the ambience of this grand old hotel.
