Gem in La Candelaria

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: The location, the staff, over all experience.
Cons: The walls are not sound proof - you can hear everything in the surrounding rooms.
Location: Perfect location near all the main museums, churches, plazas.
Spent just two nights there, but it was a very nice experience. Excellent location in La Candelaria near all the interesting attractions in the center, and on a very secure pedestrian street. Possible to walk to the museums and the cable car station that goes to Monserrate. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. There is a nice restaurant on the ground floor in case you want to eat in, maybe overly fancy but the food and service is good and it's nice to have the option since the area is pretty quiet in the evening. The room was on the 7th floor on the deco side of the hotel. Spotless and with all amenities I needed. The only down side is that the building is old and not sounds proof, so I could hear activity in the halls and neighboring rooms. But this didn't bother me at all at night. Over all I would say a great hotel for the location, staff and the rate.

Special place - ok service

Posted May 30, 2014
I stayed at the hotel by myself for 2 days when visiting Bogota for the first time. All major tourist attractions are close by. The hotel itself is one of them with its historic setting and authentic decorations. Staff was very friendly but spoke little English. I had trouble with the electronic key to the room, and they send the concierge up with me to demonstrate the intricate maneuvers to open the door correctly second time around. They only seemed slightly annoyed with idiot-me. Room 301 was noisy due to the proximity of the restaurant, starting at 6:30 or do. - I had booked breakfast and they didn't inform me. So I never went despite having paid for it. - However, the setting is so pretty. So, ovrrall, one of a kind place and an enriching experience for the traveler willing to adjust to being brow-beaten by staff for not knowing how to use their decrepit electronic keys etc.

Hotel de la Opera is located in the historic Candelaria district in Bogota near museums, historic sites, and restaurants. The hotel is elegant, has good wifi, a nice buffet breakfast, and a spa. This is a great hotel if you plan to do sightseeing in Bogota.

An oasis!

Posted May 20, 2014
Pros: Location!
Cons: Dinner at the lobby hotel didn't have a lot of flavor.
Location: This hotel is in the middle of just about everything you want to do in Bogota.
Bogota can feel a bit rough in places, but this hotel is your oasis. The room was very comfortable and the staff was terrific. Breakfast was nice. We only got to dinner eat at the lobby restaurant, which was fine, but we hear the one overlooking the city is quite good and were disappointed to miss it (Sunday and Monday).

Elegant family friendly hotel in la Candelaria

Posted Apr 29, 2014
Pros: Location, decor, and comfort.
Location: Great place to stay when exploring la Candelaria. Two blocks from Plaza de Bolivar. Walking distance to the Gold Museum. Close to Monserrate too.
We stayed here for two nights with our daughters ages 6 and 9. The whole family loved this hotel. Great location close to Plaza de Bolivar and other tourist destinations. Charming architecture. Rooms were modern, clean, and comfortable. Huge bath tub which is apparently unusal in Bogota. Nice indoor pool/spa. Breakfast was delicious. We would definitely stay here again.
