Clean, well-staffed, good amenities and affordable

Posted May 2, 2014
The room was acceptable, considering the price. The bedroom and bathrooms were clean. The staff were generally helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Other facilities were well-provided, such as Wi-Fi and laundry amenities (self-service, soap not provided, €2.50 for wash and dry). Two unfortunate aspects of the hotel were A. there was no general recreation room or lounge for guests to meet one another, and B. possibly related to (A), other guests (with children) made lots of noise in the corridors at night. Overall, a very good hotel at a reasonable price. Recommended.

Simple hostel in convenient location for budgeters

Posted Mar 28, 2014
Pros: The advantages are that you are 10 min. from train station, 5 min. from a park with lovely trees, and ca 12 minutes' from Piazza Maggiore.
Cons: Better shower maintenance. More toilet paper and blankets! Healthier breakfast: whole grain rolls for breakfast and a choice of teas
Location: Via Pallone is a side street close to a park and the university area. People jog and picnic in the park. 28 bus to the trade fair centre. 2o min.
This is a very functional building with five bathrooms, each with toilet, shower, bidet and sink on each of 3 floors with about 12 group rooms on each floor. Take ear plugs: you hear your neighbours snoring and kids playing in the uncarpeted hall. But the windows are very tall and can be opened. The heating is quite fast and comfortable (hums). The advantages are that you are 10 minutes' walk from the train station, 5 minutes from a park with huge old trees, and about 12 minutes' walk from Piazza Maggiore. Also, the staff was mostly helpful and spoke some English. Breakfast is sketchy, get there by 07:30 if you want croissants. I paid ca. 365 English pounds in March 2014 for a return flight from Munich and 4 nights in a single room with breakfast. Fresh woven towels every morning and your bed is made. I would stay there again because I like the location near the park and it's affordable. Another guest in a single room said she paid 70€ per night during the Book Fair - and 35€ at other times. Cheap and cheerful.

I don't understand this place at all

Posted Nov 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
It seems to be a residence hotel for down-and-out locals. I had a ground floor single with shared bathroom, which worked out okay because this being the off-season there was no one to share with. The room was like a very big monk's cell, but clean. Wifi worked okay. I think I chose it for the price, but I would look early and carefully if I were going to Bologna again; I don't even remember why I decided to go to Bologna because there's not much there. Anyway, the hotel ended up being fine - but barely so.

comfortable 2 night stay in good area

Posted Oct 16, 2013
Pros: Clean, comfortable and cheap.
The room was large and comfortable, albeit basic. There was plenty of storage and desk space. The bed is comfortable. The rooms are clean. The only downside are the communal bathrooms/toilets but I am used to using Formule 1 hotels in France and so this is no problem for 2 nights. The hotel is just off the Independenzia and so in a very good position for the city centre and a quick bus ride to the Fair. I probably will try for a more modern hotel with en suite bathroom next time but, as Bologna is very expensive, this is a good place on a budget - if you can put up with the separate bathrooms.

Probably it is proper standard for one star. Big, dark room with not working air-condition system, working only 1 (of 5) electric power socket. Nearest car park very expensive.

At best a hostel with private rooms.

Posted Aug 20, 2013 on Hotels.com
To summarize; too expensive, uncomfortable and a very poor breakfast - I would not stay here again. The Albergo Pallone should be more accurately described as a hostel not a hotel. First the good; it is located on a quiet street in a nice neighborhood almost adjacent to a park and within easy walking distance to the train station and the city center. The rooms were large and fairly clean, and the wifi worked well. On the other hand, despite the location, the building itself appears to be a re-purposed institutional building with no character. Both the private bedroom and shared bathrooms were in need of both general maintenance and repair. There are no screens on the windows and no air conditioning. There is only one water fountain available during very limited hours in the breakfast area. Some of the staff was helpful, but others were not and were very rigid. Overall the room/bed was not comfortable. The worst part was the breakfast, they have a coffee machine, juice, water and one bread product such as a croissant. The last morning there was a cereal, but neither milk, bowls nor spoons.

Excellent stay, close to City Center

Posted Jul 18, 2013 on Hotels.com
I had booked a single room at another hotel before realizing it was too far from the center. Using Hotels.com, I was able to quickly change my booking to this hotel. It was within walking distance to the Piazza Maggiore and all the great bars and restaurants. The front desk was very nice and spoke perfect English. They even helped me print my train tickets for my travel the next day. The room was huge, but the bed was small, which was fine because it was just me. The shower down the hall was very clean and convenient to use. For the price this was a great deal, they even included a traditional Italian breakfast each morning as part of the room charge. The place is in a very secure area, close to a main bus stop and 10 minute walk from the train station. I would definitely stay there again!
