Relaxed, dive resort on the beach.

Posted Jul 23, 2014
Pros: The location on the shore and the relaxed vibe.
Cons: The property is tired. Upkeep and maintenance have not been priorities. Staff members at the front desk need customer service coaching.
Location: Right on the beach and just a short walk to the center of town.
Our family enjoyed snorkeling right out the door of our room. The room was right on the water and the whole place had a great feel. The purpose of our visit was to take our kids snorkeling for a few days. Though there are plenty of places to snorkel right off the shore around the island, we never left the resort because our kids found the snorkeling fabulous just twenty feet from our room. The place is a bit tired and some of the public areas including the pools have not been well-maintained. Though the staff at the restaurants and bar were perfectly accommodating and pleasant, the front desk staff need training, coaching, and supervision with the goal of serving customers. Multiple times, we had to stand and wait for several minutes as front desk staff finished their conversations with other staff members before even acknowledging our presence. They seemed to not want to be interrupted. Additionally, the front desk staff are supposed to provide beach towels. However, it took us five separate visits to the front desk until they had towels available. Furthermore, we never had enough bath towels in our room, always had to ask for more, and it always took hours to get more towels. If this place would simply invest in some towels and fix the customer service issues at the front desk, this would be the perfect island holiday destination for families and individuals who love diving and snorkeling.

Great ocean view rooms

Posted Jun 13, 2014
While the hotel is in great need of maintenance and updating, its location is good. The rooms with ocean view are right on the water, and at night it is wonderful to hear the sound of waves as you rest. The staff is helpful and friendly.

A peaceful hotel with good snorkeling

Posted May 30, 2014
Pros: The staff. Snorkeling.
Location: Great setting. Swimming, snorkeling, diving right there.
The staff was friendly and courteous. A breakfast buffet reasonably priced. Two good restaurants. Two good bars. At the waters edge. You can see the fish swimming by. Two pools. A dive club with 6 boats. A catamaran for snorkeling. WiFi in the rooms.

Nice hotel on the water

Posted Mar 13, 2014
Pros: Location!!!!!
Room was on water and was clean and comfortable. Front desk people very friendly upon arrival and departure as well. We walked by the sea to piers outside of property. Definitely a good location. We snorkeled right outside of our room and saw amazing lots of beautiful tropical fish. We had most of our meals right on premises and found the food and service OK.

Good location but poor service

Posted Feb 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
We were disappointed with the resort, both in terms of condition of the property and with the attitude of the service staff. When we arrived no one said "hello" or "welcome". The two women behind the desk ignored us while dealing with the one other person in line, and then after 5-10 minutes one of them just looked at me and said "Name?". Our interactions with the staff for the rest of our stay were pretty much the same. The property is a bit run down. Lots of little maintenance things that could be fixed easily (broken light fixtures, broken lounge chairs, old peeling paint on building trim, etc.) are simply ignored by the management. The maid that serviced our room did NOT clean much of anything. She just made the bed (without changing the sheets) and sometimes gave us fresh towels (but rarely a full set!). There was dirt on the curtains, bed spreads, side of the fridge, and other places that was there when we arrived, and still there when we left. In a few cases, I got sick of looking at it and just cleaned it up myself. So overall I have to give this hotel a C- or D+ due to poor service and maintenance. On the positive side, the location is good. It is within walking distance of some fantastic restaurants (we almost never ate at the resort) and the little downtown area of Kralendijk. We did have hamburgers with fries from the resort bar at lunch several times and they were great.

They should smile more.

Posted Feb 11, 2014
Pros: Close to town, good snorkeling and dive shop.
Cons: Lots of little things need to be fixes in the rooms, sliding door hard to open, lock didn't work, Paper holder falling apart. Since they allow smoki
Location: 5 -10 minute walk to town and close to 8-10 good restaurants
Place was ok. Seems like a place where they put very little money back into the place to keep it updated. The room was adequate but little things lacking, the paper holder was ready to fall apart, old screw holes in wall from where they moved things, a quick touch of spackle and dap of paint and would look much better. Shower had low pressure, one morning I had barely a trickle and no hot water at all. Most mornings at the breakfast buffet we had to clean our own table and get our own silverware. The women who cooked breakfast should smile and be more pleasant. Just little inexpensive things they could do to improve the place. Since they allow smoking on their narrow beach, put ash trays conveniently around for people to use, instead they use the beach sand as one big ash tray. It’s not pleasant walking on a pile of old cigarette butts in the sand and seeing them as you sit there. Put ash trays on the table and chairs and most people would use. Hard to change the culture but management is not doing their job, it’s not a big deal for staff to smile and warmly greet guest, goes a long way to feel you are special when on vacation. The cost of a smile is free! 8 good restaurants within a 10 minute walk, only ate dinner at Flamingo first night, food was average at best, there are many great recipes for ribs out there, the ribs at the Flamingo were bland. The place has great location.Years ago was probably a great place but going down hill.

another day in paradise

Posted Jan 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
Upon checking there was a discussion who of the 2 staff members would help me. That was important because...there where no other clients at that time of night (2100) around... The room was basic and i really do not care if a tile is broken or that kind of non issue. What is important is a good bed (which was present) and a good shower. Well the showe was so-so. temp was good but the force of the water flow. well hmmm that good be improved. The hotel was only a small walk to "down-town" restaurant is eighbourhood were fine all in all a good hotel for business. But after 1100 you can shoot a canon and hit nobody... except the casino on the premises there is always a small local crowd there...
