“Not a luxury vacation, but fun and adverturous.”

If you are looking for luxury, Bonaire is not the place for you as there are no 4 or 5 star hotels on the island. The Plaza is only satisfactory as far as comfort and cleanliness. It functions as a place to sleep and eat and thats all. The hotel offers a lot of services, but all are mediocre at best. The dive shop is nice and friendly, the restaurants are pretty decent, and the grounds are fairly pretty, though expansive. So, be prepared to walk around a lot to get to your room, your restaurant, the pool, the lobby etc. The beach is nice and the reef is terrific. The entire system of Bonaire seems to be made for do it yourselfers in that its like pulling teeth to get any kind of information, suggestions, or directions to any attractions or locales. You'll find that the majority of people traveling to Bonaire seem to have already been there before and newbies are left to fend for themselves to find good restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Do your homework before you go so you know where to snorkel & dive and what excursions you want to do because you wont get any help from staff on suggestions or bookings. And take note if you are not a scuba diver; you will be heckled your entire vacation. I only snorkel, and my husband dives but the entire trip not a single day went by where people didnt pester me about learning to dive. Overall, the hotel is nice, but nothing to brag about.

“Plaza-resort crowd”

The Plaza Resort Bonaire is fine. It can be a bit noisy as they cater to the "resort" crowd and have music blaring every night for 'happy hour' and on Sat and Sun a steel drum band sometimes. The music is loud if your room is on the ocean view side, which for me an ocean view room is for viewing the peaceful ocean, not overlooking the blaring music. With the windows shut you can block out most the music noise and the rooms with a canal view don't hear it but with the canal view you don't see the ocean sunsets. Maid service was good and responsive; check in was a little slow; the room was adequate and nice-we had the ocean view deluxe (the refer was a bit noisy); dive facilities were great; beach location was great; price was fine for a resort; overall it was ok, just not my type of relaxing place-too much party atmosphere for me. The hotel itself could use sprucing up with better overall maintenance. Attention to detail pulled together would make this a top resort. The main restaurant "The Tipsy Seagull" misses the food mark but if you don't mind average food you will be ok. The hotel casino and lobby were like a ghost town, nobody visits there or hangs out there so I wonder why they even bother investing with the casino and why not change it into something else more useful and profitable. Bring or buy your own coffee and French press! If you want nice sheets bring your own, the thread count on these maybe got to 100, a bit rough on the skin.

“Less than impressed”

In my view the hotel needs much renovation in order to stay contemporary. Upon checking into our room we had miriads of mosquitos in the room. When we called the front desk about it, they just brought a bug spray for us. The bath tub is the dirtiest one I've showered in in the last 10 years travelling all over the world. The internet that is listed as one of the offered features worked only 1 day out of the 7 day stay. Restaurants were good to very good. Overall this hotel is about 3 star rating at the 1970's standart.

“Appears to be the nicest hotel on the island”

The location is convenient to the rest of the island. The hotel needs a make-over to spruce up the facilites, i.e. - rusty patio furniture. The cleaniness of the hotel rooms should be improved. The view of the island is beautiful from the ocean front rooms. Water is magnificent. Hotel's layout is well done.

“Diving good, hotel heading downhill”

I would recommend it for its well-run SCUBA operation, but the hotel itself is in a slow decline. The Casino is shut down (no loss), but with it went a breakfast restaurant. Room information is dated, and our air conditioner required frequent resetting at night, using baffling controls that eventually stopped functioning at all. Rooms are, however, sizable, clean, and the main restaurant serves good food, albeit very slowly. Staff of a Travel Assistance desk were so uninterested in dealing with a potential customer that I simply gave up.

“An acceptable hotel next to the airport”

The location is very convenient. Their backdoor is facing airport, so if you ring them and ask them to open the backdoor gate, you will be in the lobby within 5 min from the airport; otherwise be prepared to fork out 10 USD for a 2 min short ride from the airport (the main entrance is a detour away from the airport). Rooms are OK and big, but the equipment is not well-maintained. I had twice broken air-con though the staff is friendly and nice and changed my room immediately. The only drawback would probably be too much mosquitos around, in the room, in the garden. The beach on the hotel premise itself is a coral beach with fish schools nearby, nice for snorkelling/diving but not for swimming.

“Very Old and Dilapadated...Choose another location until fully renovated.”

We stayed in a 2- bedroom villa and the room was disgusting. There were mosquitos squished all over the walls and housekeeping did not clean them. It was gross. The bed covers were filthy dirty with stains. Appliances were broken. We were moved into a different villa and the same applied. Water backed up from the bathroom drain all over the bathroom floors. Maintenance did finally get the drain unclogged. It is a shame that the condition of this property is in this shape because the beach area is gorgeous. The people are also very nice. Pool was nice, but jacuzzi was broken. The food at the restaurant and the evening activities were excellent. It appears that they relied on quite a lot of money from casino revenue and the casino is no longer in operation. What a shame because this has the potential to be a wonderful resort! It has been neglected for quite some time and needs a lot of work. The Diving is just unbelievable. Walk right off the beach or the road to various dive sites and you have this beautiful coral reef system abouding with sea life.

“Stay at the Harbor Village resort!!”

When planning my recent dive trip i knew that bonaire was not a luxurious island however i was still very dissapointed! I found the staff to be very difficult with even the most simple request and felt that they said "no" way too often. Too many rules!! The place was run down and dirty and the food was horrible. Keep your girls away from the boys at the diveshop...WOW! they work like a scool of sharks!!
