“A small, well-located hotel”

This is a small hotel which has much to offer. It seems like the kind of hotel French travelers would use and they are very professional. I have stayed at other hotels in Bordeaux. They were also fine and well located, but the Hotel Gambetta is my first choice. There is no grand lobby and a small sitting room can be used by guests near the elevator. Just a pleas- ant regular place where after a few visits you feel that it is your home place. It's just a few yards from the opera house and a tramway stop is nearby as well as shopping.

“Modern, Clean and Central”

The Hotel is right in the centre of Bordeaux and easy to get to from the train station via the trams. The Hotel is very clean and seems to have undergone some recent renovations. The Hotel offers free internet as well. The Hotel also let us store our bags after we had checked out while we went on a wine tour conducted by the Tourist Office. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

“Good hotel for one night”

The Hotel Gambetta had an excellent location for walking around and exploring central Bordeaux. It was also conveniently located just off the tram stop which made it convenient from Gare St. Jean, something I was a little concerned about because I was traveling alone and at night. The room was a little on the small side and did not have air conditioning, but it was clean and comfortable, and frankly, I don't travel to hang out in the hotel.

“Great Location”

If you are flying into Bordeaux, get on the Navette bus (7 euros) and ask for GAMbetta (accent on first syllable). The bus will stop at the square. If the driver "forgets", just get off the next stop (a mandatory stop) and follow the tram tracks to Gambetta. In either case, walk through the archway and the hotel is within throwing distance on the right. The location of this hotel is truly wonderful. The staff was very nice, unlike most people in Bordeaux. Rent a car and discover the lovely countryside and warm, fun French people. The hotel has a computer for guest use and also has WiFi. The main drawback of this hotel is that the rooms are TINY. Pay for a double even if you are a single traveler.

“OK, but...”

For a very small room in a provincial hotel, it seemed somewhat overpriced. No real complaints, though you have to climb stairs to access the elevator. Good breakfast.

“Yes, but ...”

Hotel was fine for a two star but let down on one or two points. Location is great being near to drop off point for airport bus and very hand for trams and buses. Major city attractions within ten minutes walk and a wide range of restarants varying in price at hand. Unfortunately, although the decor was in good condition, the twin room was very small as was the bathroom. Shower in bath had no curtain so impossible to keep splashes contained. Virtually no storage facilities in room. This was offset to some extent by very friendly and helpful staff so if you don't mind a tight sqeeze, go for it.

“Adequate”

We flew in and our of Bordeaux. Booked a room with two twin beds for the first and last day of our 13 day vacation in France. The rooms are tiny, really tiny. A person could not sit on the floor between the two beds. Much smaller than a dorm room. That said, the rooms were clean with comfortable beds and great pillows. Our first room had a nice view of the street, our second room had a window that opened into a 5 x 5 icky internal structure with a roof below our window. We couldn't leave the window open as I was sure rats would walk right into the room. (To be fair, I didn't see evidence of rats, but that is the feeling I got.) The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, unlike most of the people we encountered in Bordeaux who were rude, snobby, and intolerant of English-speakers. Contrast this with our experience in the Dordogne and the Pyrenees where the French people were warm and welcoming. We were glad our time in Bordeaux was brief. (FYI, my daughter has been studying in Bordeaux for 5 months and speaks fluent French. Her experience with this city has been similar.) Bordeaux is a shopping mecca for snobby rich people.

“Great location”

Great location. Don't try and walk from the train station with heavy bags - take the tram. The air condidtioning turned out to be a ceiling fan that didn't keep the room cool and being August we had to therefore open the windows but then got bitten. Carpet was badly stained but apart form that the room was good.

Bordeaux, France: Once known as ‘La Belle Au Bois Dormant’ (Sleeping Beauty), Bordeaux’s graceful neo-classical buildings have been restored, the leafy boulevards pedestrianised and the city of vintage wine is now wide awake. Picturesquely set on the banks of the River Garonne, this lively university city has pretty parks and squares, impressive museums, buzzing cafés and chic shops, not to mention a plethora of gourmet restaurants to accompany the fine wines.
