“Good place in Fresh Pond area of Cambridge”

This is a good, clean hotel with fine basic amenities located near the Fresh Pond--Alewife Brook section of Cambridge, MA. I found the front desk accommodating (I had requested and received early check-in) and the breakfast, which was included, was up to the general standard for hotels of this kind. We stayed at this hotel primarily for convenience to our friends' residence which was nearby and were pleased with the service and room quality.

“Great experience”

The hotel shuttle took me to Harvard Square and let me off near the area to start a tour. My son lives within 2 miles so it was very convenient. There is a Trader Joes, Walgreens and other stores within a block. The bus goes past the hotel and the Alewife T is nearby. Breakfast was good and plenty of food with china plates. 2 computers were available in the lobby. Cookies available in the lobby in the late afternoon. Refrigerator and microwave were good.

Area recommendations

Harvard Square for the Harvard Coop (bookstore), various restaurants, and the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Peabody Museum on campus. Ride the T and buses for a week with a pass. If you have a car the Lexington-Concord area is interesting. The Minuteman historical park is worth visiting. Then stop at Walden Pond where Thoreau wrote "On Golden Pond". It's more of a lake than a pond.

“Good option in Cambridge”

A good place to stay in Cambridge where hotels tend to pricey.

Area recommendations

There is a hot buffet at the Whole Foods in the back of the hotel that is a good quick option for a meal. There is also a Chipotle across the street.

“Good hotel, but kinda expensive”

The hotel is not too far from the metro, which is a good thing. It has breakfast and the room is nice, but rates are not that cheap.

“Complete remodel is very well done!”

I stayed in this hotel in 2006 and enjoyed it quite a bit, so I chose it again for my recent stay. To my surprise, both the hotel and surrounding area have undergone a very nice upgrade! Just about everything in the hotel appears to have been completely remodeled and is very attractive. Gone are the complimentary leopard-print bathrobes, but I didn't miss them too much. It was very nice to have a fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the room, though it was lacking an in-room safe. The hotel now has a Starbucks attached to it and is next door to a Dunkin' Donuts (my favorite coffee) and a good family style Italian restaurant. Directly behind it is a Whole Foods shopping center complete with a 10-screen movie theatre, liquor store, and other conveniences, with additional centers across the street with drugstores, restaurants, etc. It's far enough from Harvard Square to be outside of the craziness generally found there, but close enough (2 miles?) to be very convenient to it. And the Alewife T station is just an 8-minute walk if you prefer public transit. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel and I'd stay here again.

Getting around

It would be helpful to use a GPS unit when driving around Cambridge and Boston in general. It's very nice to be able to avoid the busy main streets at peak hours, especially considering how horrible the Boston drivers are! No, people, red lights and stop signs are NOT mere suggestions!! Even though I felt like I was far from downtown, the GPS always got me there in about 15 minutes. Boston is a notoriously difficult city to drive in, so if you're unfamiliar with the area, GPS is the way to go!

The hotel is easy to locate--not always so in the Boston area--the staff friendly and efficient, and the included breakfast had something for everyone.

“Great location for the Price”

Perfect place for heading into the city without paying down town city prices. It was about an 8 minute walk to the T. If you plan to stay out later than 12:30am then plan to take a cab back to the hotel. It cost us about $25-30 for the Cab. Didn't spend much time in the room, but was a fine place to lay our head after a night out and about. The had warm cookies when we arrived to check in!
