Tiny rooms and untrained reception staff

Posted Jun 9, 2014
The hotel was clean and quiet, but the rooms are very small. The bathroom is exceptionally tiny. One cannot really read in bed, the way the lights are configured - and the bulbs are weak too. The AC controls are governed by a remote -- but (a) there is NO signage to this effect (so I had to call down to the front desk, when I arrived, to find out how to turn it on!) and (b) the controls are in Celsius! Really, the hotel couldn't spring for remotes with Fahrenheit controls? My big gripe though is with the front desk staff. They let me daughter join me in my room the first night (she flew in late) without asking for her ID, nor calling me. She just came in, got in the elevator, and came upstairs. No one stopped or questioned her. Then, twice, we needed duplicates of the plastic room "keys"; the staff just made them, again not even checking to see who we were. Additionally, we had breakfast vouchers (a nice touch) but the staff told us that we had to pay $4 extra if we wanted eggs. On Saturday morning, I decided to forgo the eggs -- only to learn that the restaurant offers brunch that day and I could order for free anything off the menu up to $10, which included all the egg dishes ! Does the front desk staff not know this? Finally, when I checked out, I was told that all the breakfasts were free, and so I was never charged for the mornings when I gotten an extra "chit" for eggs. So, why did I even need a ticket to order eggs on the weekdays I was there? I have no idea!

Great hotel, friendly staff!

My partner and I stayed at The Chandler Inn Hotel for two nights. It is a great place! The staff are super helpful, the room was a good size with a comfy bed and it was spotless! I would definitely recommend it to anyone needing accomodation in Boston!

Great experience.

Nice hotel. Smaller room than expected but it worked out great for my 16 yr old niece and I. Good location. Short walk to the T then couple stops later tight where we needed to be for music festival at city hall. Hotel staff was nice and helpful. Free Coffee making in lobby was a lifesaver. Also has good breakfast at restaurant attached. Must be good bar too because pretty busy on Saturday night even thought I didn't go in. All in all great experience and would recommend. Only downside for me was next to the Animal Rescue League so heard dogs barking while sleeping in on Sunday morning with the window open. Not enough to keep me from going back.

Small but Cozy

Posted May 8, 2014
Pros: location, staff
Cons: Convert 1/2 the rooms to Suites.
Location: Trophy Room Restaurant downstairs is excellent.
Yes, the room is small, but everything you need is there, including a new, firm Queen bed (most hotels use the shorter, smaller Double bed, TV is high-Def, with a zillion Direct TV channels. Bathroom is small as well, but again, everything is there. The design is good, the room clean, the restaurant is excellent, the staff polite. If you don't like small spaces you may want to pass, but for this weary business traveler it was fine.

Nice hotel, convenient to center city.

This is a really nice hotel, with helpful staff and a central location. The only issue I had was that the room was slightly musty smelling, something easily rectified by opening a window. The room is clean and the size adequate. Some might find the rooms small, but when you are in a city like Boston, how much time are you really going to spend in the hotel room?

Unassuming, quaint hotel

Posted Apr 23, 2014
Pros: Comfortable bed.
Cons: The courteousness of the front desk staff.
When I stayed, from the outside the hotel looked very run-down; the lobby, staff didn't offer many amenities or pleasantries. But, the room was comfortable, and it seems to be slowly being upgraded and the set-up in the room is modern and minimalistic. I mean it when I say "minimal" - no closet; just a wardrobe hangar. Very small bathroom w/ shower. The best thing about this place, though, is its location! Close to some theaters, shopping, food - very walkable, or a short taxi ride from anywhere you'd want to go.
