“Good Place To stay...but not forever”

First of all, this is a "Boutique" Hotel for a reason, because it's affordable and some people don't want to have all sorts of frills. If you're one of those types with lot's of money to throw around, you can go to any hotel in the world...If however, you're like the rest of America in these belt-tightening times, Hotel 140 is perfect for you. The room is clean, the maid service is clean, the bed is comfortable, it's within striking distance of major Boston Landmarks (Especially the Hancock building directly next door.) and there's free HBO. The only major drawbacks I can see is to BYO Detergent when doing the laundry in their Coin-Op laundry room. But otherwise, if you want No Frills, Hotel 140 is for you.

“Excellent location”

The hotel is perfectly located. It's in the Back Bay and very close to the T. The room was a little on the small side but since we only used it to sleep we did not mind. I would definitely recommend staying here.

“Basics only, but great location”

The hotel is a former YWCA. I stayed in a "standard" room which was very small, with one twin bed (so the bed was small too). The hotel only offers basics - shower, bed, TV. However, it is very clean, the staff is helpful and polite, and the location is golden (a couple of blocks from Boston Commons, Newbury Street, etc.). A parking in the adjacent building at a very decent rate, and free internet in your room are great extras. Overall, I would strongly recommend it for people who are planning to hang out in Boston, but are willing to sacrifice luxury for a good night rate and a great location.

“Can't wait to go back”

I really loved the hotel, the only limitation was the absence of a 24/7 restaurant in the hotel, a great problem in a blizzard :). Otherwise I would recommend the hotel. The standard room is quite enough for a single person.

“Size Does Not Matter”

Hotel 140 is small and the room itself IS small. But it worked for my husband and me. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The night-shift guy at the front desk greeted us with recognizing smile when we got back every single night. The room was extremely clean. They have a conservation policy: they won't take the used towels every day unless you tell them so. For me that's very important. I have always squirmed at the way hotels unnecessarily spend resources. Yet the bathroom seemed to be cleaned every day and there wasn't a speck of dust not even on the most remote and forgotten corners. Believe me, I checked. Oh, and the room has its own thermostat, free wireless Internet, an iron and an ironing board, a hair blower and cable. And I found the rate dirt cheap for a middle class working young gal like me. The place has an excellent localization; it's near important commercial streets and near all the big hotels, so it's ideal to stay if you're going to a conference at one of the said hotels. That was my case. I comfortably walked 10 minutes to the Sheraton, where my conference was, even at 25 degrees, because the distance was short and the sight was nice. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone. Downside: Sometimes you can hear the people in the contiguous room. That means they may also hear you. It's not such a big deal, anyway. The sound is distant and muffled. And since the room is so small, there's no reason to talk too loud.

“Very Nice, will stay here again.”

Checked in early with no problem and also was upgraded to a bigger room/bed without asking for it. Very spacious room and very clean, comfortable bed. Came with a mini refrigerator in the room which was a nice touch.

“Delightful”

Clean and quiet, friendly staff, fantastic location. Rooms are small (just as advertised) but nicely appointed and everything worked. We will definitely return.
