“Very satisfied.”
We stayed here during Thanksgiving weekend. It went beyond my expectations, and overall, I'm happy I chose this hotel. There are only two comments I would want to make. 1) Valet Service. Valet service is about $45. They do not encourage self-parking ($30) since it's still far from the hotel. I was planning to get to the Boston Airport at 0545 for a 0730 flight. However, the valet attendants do not get to work till 0600. If you're ever in the same dilemma to where you need your car before the attendants arrive, be aware that you would have to drag your luggage and find your car on your own although you're charged the full $45. 2) Pets. I love the fact that I can bring my dog to this hotel. The only recommendation would be too add some grass around the surrounding area so that the dogs can do their business. Other than that, I would probably choose to stay at this hotel again.
“Highly disappointed!”
For the amount of money we spent for the hotel, I expected a much better room. The room was a tiny bit bigger then my closet at home. We didn't have a choice of beds when we booked the room . My son and I almost ended up with a double bed. The walls are paper thin. For two of our three nights we heard drunken fools in out and of their room from two am to four am. I would've picked up the phone to call downstairs but the handset was not working and I didn't want to wake my son who somehow managed to sleep through the chaos. The tv got only a few channels and many were blurry. Remote for the tv was not always working. The staff was very friendly. They also stored our bags for us before and after check-out which was extremely helpful. Pretty good location. Overall, not the greatest experience!
“Good Place to Stay”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bulfinch. It was my first time to Boston. The hotel was close to transportation (the T) and within walking distance many sites. The front desk was friendly. We wanted to go to the Sam Adams Brewery and they printed out the T stops needed for us to get there. The rooms were small but unless you are visiting Boston to only spend time in the room, it's not a big deal. The bathroom was very large. I used to work in a motel, and found the rooms to be pretty clean. Overall, no complaints. We would stay there again anytime.
“Great hotel, great location”
I loved the character of this hotel, and the location close to everything. I enjoyed the money I saved getting a small room suitable for just 1 person, and that is not an option in many hotels.
“Great location, decent hotel”
Overall decent experience, rooms are small, but ok for a short stay. The location was great to walk to North End, Fanuil Hall, pubs, and restaurants. Its definitely not the Ritz but if you don't go in expecting too much, you won't be disappointed. I wouldn't go to the restaurant there as it wasn't great, but lots of other options close by.
“Poor quality”
It wasn't clean - mold/mildew in the bathroom shower and outside baseboards, bites on ankles in morning from bed bugs, towel bar was falling off the wall -- poor cleanliness and maintenance all-around. Location was good for financial district but not for travel/touring. If you have a rental car, there's a substantial charge for parking that's not mentioned until you get there.
“Worst value EVER”
This "upscale" hotel in Boston can't do much about their small rooms, because it is a flatiron building. However, we booked a double occupancy through Expedia's unpublished rates and got the smallest room on the floor...which was the tiniest thing I have ever seen in my life. There was ONE FULL SIZE BED, with only room to get in on one side! The world's smallest wardrobe, which couldn't open without hitting the desk, had room pricing listed inside it. There was only a rate listed for a SINGLE person. There was a slash where is listed a rate for 2 people in the room! The rate WE paid was a joke, so when I saw their normal rate, I was speechless. The shower had both mildew and soap scum that indicated a good couple months of not being cleaned properly. There was a green mold in the corner the sink counter. The bed linens were clean and comfortable. Just because they have a robe hung in the wardrobe, that does not make an upscale hotel! There was no little fridge (forget a mini bar), no microwave, an unimpressive TV and not enough lighting. That's acceptable for a cheap hotel, but at this price, what a joke! To put this in perspective, we spent the next night at a chain hotel, rated only 2 1/2 stars, that was nearly 1/3 the price and we were MUCH more comfortable.
“Historic Hotel”
Pleasantly surprised--usually historic hotels are a bit lacking in amenities. This one was not. A bit cramped for space, but in a great location. Within walking distance of the Charles River esplanade and the trolley stop for touring the city was only a block away. Lots of places to see and eat. A great hotel--a great trip!
“good hotel, but doors need sound proofing”
everything was fine, except for the thin doors, actually they have a 1 inch spare space at the bottom, so you can wake up very early if so,eone walks the hallway. for the rest, good, and nice bar for beers and tapas!
“decent”
Very friendly staff, many of whom consist of interns who work for the hotel. The staff (perhaps by virtue of its age) is extremely knowledgeable about the best hangouts, bars, restaurants, and clubs in the Boston area; additionally, they are well-informed about which neighborhoods are more active and outgoing than others. Rooms were decent though small, as is no surporise for any hotel that is located inside an old building in downtown Boston.
