“Great Location”
Some minor inconveniences - somehow the tv locked up and required someone on the staff to come and unlock it. We were above the pool area and the room was a bit on the humid side even though not humid outside. But overall a nice room with good amenities and fantastic location.
“wonderful place to stay”
My family and I had a wonderful visit at the Charles Hotel. I would highly recomend the hotel. It has a great location as well.
“Best hotel in the Cambridge area.”
Very comfortable, good food, very good service
“Business traveler's gem”
In the thick of Harvard Square, a block fro a T stop, and excellent in-room amenities.
“Loved it!”
Friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms, convenient location!
“Good Hotel”
This hotel is in a good location very close to Harvard. It is clean and safe and comfortable. There is not much character to it as it is a big hotel and no contact with staff from check in to check out which makes it a bit impersonal. The price reflects the location more than the hotel standard.
“Ideal Location”
The location was great. Walking distance to lots of good cafes and restaurants. Close to Charles River for running & walking paths and very convenient to the T to downtown Boston. The only observation regarding the hotel is that we found the reception area a bit removed and therefore we had very little interaction with hotel personnel or management during our stay. We are more used to a warm or more personal touch.
“Repeat visitors”
We love staying at the Charles Hotel for the convenient location and amenities including dining options. The hotel was doing some remodeling during our stay but it did not impact us or take away from our experience. Housekeeping did not clean our room one night during our 3 night stay - we did leave the "do not disturb" sign out all day in error but if that has happened before we have gotten a call asking if we'd like the room freshened. Coffee is complimentary at Henrietta's in the morning and we had a full breakfast and lunch there during our stay - excellent meals. Legal Seafood is just across the courtyard and we had a lovely lunch there also. Pool and fitness are a plus - only complaint is there is not a lot of seating up at the pool so if a few families are present there is not a place to settle in. We did use the equipment, steam room, jacuzzi and pool every day - in January during very cold weather it was a blessing. Would stay there again (we've been there twice) and recommend it to others.
“Overall Good Experience”
Comfortable, nice, clean accomodations in contemporary style which we like. A little suprised that as hotel guests we were turned away being only 5 minutes late for breakfast hours in their restaurant. Not a biggie, since the room service food was fast and pretty great. Also be aware that parking as in most city hotels is extra.
“A keeper with minor suggestions--will return soon”
This was my second stay at The Charles this fall, for a total of about ten nights. Unusually spacious, comfortably appointed room overlooking a lighted plaza below, and the Charles River further on. Excellent housekeeping services and climate control, great location (though not an especially safe one for walking around at night, especially alone). Fitness room is well-equipped though can be a bit crowded, and hours are surprisingly limited compared to other hotels. Two things on the wish list: 1) a second upholstered chair so two can sit comfortably, and 2) in-room coffee/tea setup (maybe in lieu of oddly stocked, overpriced "snack tray"). Even an espresso cart or coffee service in the lobby would be a tremendous improvement. Didn't love having to call room service, sit down for a meal at the hotel restaurant, or leave the hotel to get coffee or tea in the morning. I'd give an overall grade of A-/B+ based on the above, and the fact that the hotel is a wee bit overpriced, compared to similar properties, both locally and in other major US and European cities.
