Lots of bling

Posted Dec 5, 2014
Pros: Very central. Right on Copley square.
Location: Close to the convention centre and the attached mall. Right on Copley square. Buses to and from the airport arrive and leave from Copley square.
The lobby hurt my eyes as I entered, the glare from gilt fittings, chandeliers and marble were a bit much that late at night. Nice hotel though. Not sure what the story was with the two friendly dogs they keep near reception, but they were okay. It's an older hotel but the rooms have been updated, so it was fine. Boston is expensive, I got a reasonable deal through expedia though.

Very old and worn out

Heating was old and very loud. Very uncomfortable to sleep. The room's view was what you would expect in a tenement.

Elegant, historical and comfortable

Soaring ceilings in the lobby with old world artisan finishings, a smiling and smart greeting at reception, spacious rooms, comfy bed and fluffy pillows. Convenient local to Pru and Back Bay.

A grand hotel has lost their way

Posted Oct 25, 2014
Pros: The location is great if you're visiting, going to the symphony or to any of the Back Bay scene.
Cons: Open a second restaurant, a nice sane restaurant that focuses on the food and good conversation with friends.
Location: Walk around the many great things to do in the Back Bay.
The hotel is focussed on its banquet trade and it's new restaurant. Their new restaurant, the only restaurant in the hotel, has re-branded itself for the young hipster crowd. It's dark, the music is LOUD, and it's a glorious pick-up scene for the 20-ish crowd. It's impossible to carry on a quiet conversation, read, or do anything much beyond the socializing. The sad thing is that this is the only restaurant on the property. So unless you're willing to eat elsewhere or rely on room service, choose to a different hotel.
