“Terrific hotel, resonable rates, great location”
Excellently located on the edge of town, the Best Western Hotel Atrium in Arles, France, offers a terrific value for your money. With an outdoor swimming pool, it overlooks the town square (Blvd des Lices) and is an ideal base from which to take strolls through the twisted, cute narrow pedestrian walkways which honeycomb the old town of Arles, and meet the friendly Arlésiens (citizens of Arles). It is great to soak up the Van Gogh experience and try to locate the sites where he painted his now-famous colorful paintings of everyday life such as L'Espace, Les Alyscamps, Falling Autumn Leaves, and the site of the Langlois Bridge. Make your way to the Le Grand Rhone to find the actual spot that Vincent painted his leitmotif Starry Night, at Place De Lamartine. From the hotel, head to Place du Forum and reward yourself with a café crème at the Yellow Cafe Terrace, site of the Cafe de Nuit. Via the Rue De La Republique, perambulate to the Quai Max Dormoy, and explore Thermes de Constantine to keep your toes warm in caldarium and the tepidarium. Enter the Cloister of Saint Trophimus for a time travel into the Middle Ages, then go further back in time via the Rond Point Des Arenas to the amazingly well-preserved Roman arena, Les Arènes. This huge arena still hosts the Provencal-style bullfights (courses camarguaises) in which the bull is not killed. It is also the site of famous 1888 painting by Vincent van Gogh, Les Arènes. Extend your stay at this hotel!
