Historic Carriage Inn with excellent meals.Posted Jun 4, 2015
Pros: The dinner was excellent and the historic main floor of the hotel is a delight.
Cons: Rooms could be re-decorated to make them more charming.
Location: The location is quite remote, so you need a car. No restaurants or shops nearby. Definitely take the 20 minute drive to visit Hadrian's Wall.
We were most impressed with quality of dinner that one can order in the String of Horses. If you stay, do not eat ahead...plan to order dinner there. The breakfast was also good (but not as outstanding). It was fun staying at this Inn because it is 400 hundred years old and history is embedded in the walls and ceilings of the common area downstairs. The rooms are upstairs (hauling luggage up the stairs will be undertaken by the owner if necessary). The rooms are clean and pleasant and surprisingly large. They are, however, very old rooms and floor boards creak a little, so the rooms have less charm than the common part of the Inn. Bed comfort was acceptable. The Inn is actually in Faugh (which is a very tiny residential area), and is 7 miles southeast of Brampton. You need a car to get there and are better off to turn off the A69 at Warwick Bridge than to go into Brampton (the information office in Brampton did not know how to get to Faugh).

Lovely out of the way innPosted Dec 30, 2014
We had a 2 night break here. Lovely old coaching inn, room was very nice and the breakfast first class. All the staff were very helpful indeed. The evening meals in the bar were excellent quality and good value. Would stay again.

Would love to returnPosted Sep 22, 2014
The hotel, although off the beaten path, was very easy to find. The proprietors were helpful and charming, the food good (both breakfast and dinner), the wifi strong, and the facilities well-kept. I have already recommended it to a few English friends!
