“Does what is says on the tin”

This hotel was built in Soviet times and although it shows in the decor it is a friendly place to stay which is right in the centre of Bratislava. For a value for money centrally located hotel it is hard to beat. It unashamedly caters for the 'stag party' trade and so is probably not the best place for a romantic weekend away with your loved one, but if you want a cheap and cheerful base for getting to know Bratislava its great. Places like Vienna and Budapest are 1 hour and 3 hours by train and are easily accessable day trips on the cheap and easy to use rail network.

“Sound budget option”

The lifts work, there's plenty of hot water, the room and bed were clean, the location is close to Bratislava Old Town, and the breakfast is an eat all you can buffet including bacon and eggs, coffee, fruit for the health conscious (cakes for the not health conscious), + ample coffee and tea- so if all that isn't worth £33 for 2 people, show me better value somewhere else in town. Why carp and quibble about slight cosmetic defects when the management are quite honest about what they offer? If you want a natty little boutique hotel, go elsewhere and pay double or treble. My one and only suggestion for an improvement is : get rid of the ugly old Trabant which adorns the lobby, and replace it with some potted shrubs and flowers. This would transform the entrance area. Oh, and why did the hotel clerk pretend not to know about the airport bus service operated by the city bus company? Did he really think we'd take a taxi as he suggested? We only stayed one night in the Kyjev at the end of our trip, but as we are proud to be budget travellers, we certainly intend to return. It would make a good base to explore not only Slovakia, but also Vienna. BTW, if you arrive at Bratislava train or bus station, buy a 15 minute tram ticket (50c), then look for a no. 13 tram, which goes to a point about 100 mtrs. from Hotel Kyjev. The airport bus is no. 61 and a ticket is 75c.

“Good cheap place to stay”

The hotel was a lot better than we anticipated, and it was obviously impressive in the 70s. It's a little shabby now, but the bedding was clean, the bathroom fine, and it was well heated. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast buffet was good. The location was convenient for the old town and tourist information (less than a fifteen minute walk away) and the public transport was close by and easy to navigate. A huge Tesco department and food store is next door if you need anything. Doubtless some people will find fault with the place, expecting perfection for a bargin price, but considering the price for a twin room with bed and breakfast was comparable with a nights Youth hostel dormitory accomodation it was excellent value! Avoid weekends and the influx of stag parties though!

“Not at all what I expected from the price”

For the price was expecting to be dissatisfied in some way, in fact I have nothing to complain about whatsoever. Brilliant location, comfortable and clean rooms (had a great view too which was a bonus!), friendly and very helpful staff and great breakfasts. All in all, if I had paid 3 times the price I still would have been just as satisfied. Definitely would recommend.

“Cracking breakfast”

Cleanish room - lift slow but sure - friendly staff - close to everything - and a choice of breakfasts to set you up for the day.

“Cheap, Central Hotel. ok its a bit old...”

If your looking for a cheap hotel, in a central location, with very friendly staff book here.. Ok its a bit tired, and has clearly seen better days but for the money you cant really go wrong. If you want 5 star service and quality go and stay in the carlton on the main square.. it'll cost you though..

“Aging but great location and price”

Hotel Kyjev is, quite simply, the best value in Bratislava. It hasn't been renovated since it was built several decades ago BUT that means it's a bargain. Also, though it's well worn, the rooms are scrupulously clean. They don't offer many amenities. But, the included breakfast buffet is fantastic and the staff is gracious. Recommended to anyone who needs a basic, clean, good value place to stay in the very center of Bratislava.

“Great base for city visit”

I stayed in the Kyjev for 2 nights in October and it proved to be the perfect base for a city break. 5 minutes walk to the old town - 20 minutes to the castle. The rooms are basic but large and carpeted walls and floor! Big bathroom with plenty of ot water. No facitlites such as coffee making, mini bar or cable TV - but safe, warm and great staff. PLus the best breakfast buffet i have had for ages. Value for money in anyones book.
