Elegant traditional hotel close to great skiing.

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: Majestic views, old-world charm , horse drawn sleigh ride, indoor fireplaces, and friendly staff
Cons: Quieter room doors,(slam when closing) coffee machine and refrigerator in room, breakfast snacks with free morning coffee.
Location: Bretton Woods Alpine skiing two minutes away, Nordic skiing, Sleigh ride by horse drawn carriage, ice skating and tubing on premises.
The hotel is grand, with majestic views and gorgeous sitting areas and hallways. Staff is super friendly and aim to please. Rooms are comfortable. Food is nicely prepared and tasty.

Nice hotel but disapounting

Room Service in the book inside the room said closing at midnight but when ordering at 11:15 they said that they were closed in there it was very upsetting because nothing else was open in the hotel The next night when the server brought up room service at 1045and we call down and told them that we did not receive everything that we ordered they proceeded to say that they've closed and can't do anything about it

Anniversary Getaway

Posted Jan 7, 2015
Cons: Our door pool should be much warmer!
Hotel is a beautiful site much like you would expect an 1900 Ocean liner to feel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room had no hot water for a shower. I phoned the front desk whom had a staff member at our door within 5min. He was kind and told me he would have it fixed right away. Within 5-10 min after he left I received a call the hot water should be back in 5min. Very thankful as we were off to diner. We ate at Stickney's our waiter was wonderful and friendly food was good all though a little pricey. The out door pool was not warm enough to use but the indoor hot tub was wonderful. The hotel was 70 percent full but we never felt crowded. We had a standard queen room and felt it was fine for 2nights 2adults. Rooms and hotel were very clean. Beautiful area to explore and we look forward to returning in the summer months. Overall we had a great experience.

Perfect service and a great atmosphere combined to make the ideal stay for a quick night away or a week of care free living. I will for sure be back.

Beautiful hotel nestled in the mountains!

Posted Jan 4, 2015
Pros: Good food, "generally" great staff with some bad apples, great views! Also, for a very old hotel, it was very well-maintained. HOTEL SHUTTLE SERVICE!
Cons: More bell staff during peak check-in periods. Some staff were otherwise put off by a need to get around their equipment.
Location: LOTS of great things to do at the hotel! Bretton Woods ski area nearby. MAKE HEAVY USE OF THE HOTEL SHUTTLE!!
Check in was a little rough. Bell staff were so busy that we didn't want to wait what was probably an hour for help with our bags - so we carried them all by ourselves. Far too much to lug into far too tiny elevators and up ramps to your room. Hotel food was tasty, but expensive! Breakfast buffet was $25, but was really quite good with lots of options.

Grand old hotel needs updating

Posted Dec 29, 2014
Room the size of a closet and ridiculously expensive. Pipes clinked and clanked all night long. Full buffet style breakfast overpriced and terribly stocked (empty fruit bowls, no pancakes, couple pieces of bacon). Service was good and staff was friendly. Beautiful property and charming feel but the price for what you get is way out of whack!

DO NO GO THERE, their philosophy is not customer s

Posted Dec 28, 2014
Most of the staff are exchange students from other countries, nothing wrong with that if properly trained and supervised, clearly not the case. Also, they pride themselves on having 5 restaurants on premises, that is not true. There are only 2 restaurants on site and only one opens for lunch. The menu is limited and not healthy oriented. We love an antique property, but this one is old and poorly maintained. But the worst part is that most of the management staff, with a few exceptions, seems not to care. I traveled around the worl and can comment. based on experience and knowledge. This property is not worthy of their prices.

Overpriced and so-so

Posted Dec 25, 2014
Pros: Shuttle, spa
Cons: Refridgerator, coffee maker, light in closet.
Location: Ski, both alpine and nordic.
The hotel leaves mixed feelings. Huge and crowded, with very high ceilings and thin walls. They have you sign a paper that you will be quiet after 10pm or they will charge you $500. No refrigerator or coffee maker in the room, fussy decor, old-fashioned elevator with an operator. Good beds, nice bay windows, but literally no light in the walk-in closet. Friendly staff, valet parking, shuttle service operates very quickly. The indoor pool is small, with a tiny area for kids. The outdoor pool looks good but it is waaaay down the hill and you have to go outside to get there - I saw people running back and forth in bath robes in 30F. Spa is good, I would have ranked it as great if not the bright light which they keep on during the service. I've been to many hotels in Vermont which are very cosy in winter. It was my first trip to New Hampshire where I expected to get a similar experience. Overall, it was disappointing.

Great location

Posted Dec 24, 2014
The hotel is in a beautiful location. The room rates are a bit high for an older, less than perfect property. We had some issues with hot water and a roll away that was embarrassing. The staff did refund for that. Also on site dining is a bit thin. Earliest reservations 9pm when we arrived. Overall a very nice, historic hotel in a spectacular location.
