Paradise in seclusion

Posted Apr 16, 2015
Traveling week after Easter the island was a little slow so our beach seemed all our own .we didn't get a car but a short taxi ride takes you to the ferry. For 15 dollars we traveled to Jost van dyke for the day a lot of people were there and a few nice shops the beach was amazing as well you can take the ferry to many nearby islands too. Awesome pick for me🌞🌴🌴👍

Was better some years age; has gone downhill.

Pros: Good location; clean rooms; good housekeeping.
Cons: Wait staff training and supervision.
Location: Not too far from Cane Garden Beach and Road Town.
Dining room wait staff was ill-trained. slow; discourteous. inattentive and poorly supervised. Really, there is island time and there is Long Beach wait staff time.

Beachfront is gorgeous!

Had a great time. Views are breathtaking. Take the mile walk to Smuggler's Cove--the beach is amazing and less windy.

Fabulous location

Great location. The beach is extraordinary. We stayed in one of the beachfront cabanas. Very nice and all you need; a fridge and wet bar was great for breakfast items and liquid refreshments. remember it's the Caribbean, so don't expect the Ritz Carleton. Everything is clean and adequate. The coral makes swimming difficult right in front of the property, but a short walk west down the beach brings you to a delightful sandy bottom. Front desk staff were great, wait staff in the restaurant could stand some Disney training and the discipline of a shot clock. Very slow. But we only ate there once, as we had planned to explore other culinary options anyway. The Fusion restaurant next door is excellent and a good value, with superior service. Don't miss Cane Garden Bay - lots of informal beachfront restaurant options, and the Dove in Road Town is outstanding, with a killer wine list! Three different Penfolds Grange vintages!! We will return: the location is amazing.

Lovely hotel, right on the beach

Posted Jan 19, 2015
Long Bay is not a glamorous 5 star hotel, but I doubt there are any on Tortola. But our room was modern, clean, huge with a high ceiling. The air conditioning worked perfectly and it was 30 ft from the beach with a great view. The beach by the hotel has rocks that will hurt your feet, so just walk a couple of hundred feet to your left (as you're) facing the ocean, to where "Nature Boy's" beach bar is. The sand goes all the way out there with no rocks. The restaurant has pretty good food, people come from elsewhere to eat there. The only thing to watch out for is the Keurig coffee machine in the lobby. It is set up to trick you into thinking it's complimentary, but there is a partly hidden sign that you now owe them $5.00. Then, when I paid them, they insisted on getting $5.50!!! Other than that teeny annoyance I liked Long Bay a lot, and would go back, mainly because there's a good beach yoy can get to without driving. The staff there were super friendly and helpful. If you're brave enough to drive on Tortola, which I wasn't, you can save yourself a bunch of $30 each way taxi fares. It's not the wrong side of the road thing that scared me out of it, but the insane sharp turns on steep hills that make you think you'd flip over. Drive slow and in the rain, take a cab and let the locals drive! Go to Cane Gardens Bay after 3pm, when the cruise ship mob have gone back to their ships and eat at Mylett's there.

Lounge chairs on the beach. Very nice place. Will go back again. Nice long beach ( compared to other Tortilla beaches) to walk on. Free wi fi in lobby. Parked car next to cottage. Very convenient. We like clean and fine.

12/31/2014 to 01/05/2015 Trip

Hotel was very first class and the service staff were very friendly and accommodating. The beach, about 1/2 mile long, was very nice, though rocky about four feet from shore. Only a 30 minute walk from Smuggler's Cove which is a very good swimming and snorkeling beach. Hotel is quiet, somewhat isolated from the rest of the island, and the taxi service is not cheap. Travel around the island is slower because of the rough terrain. Only downside to the hotel was they have a very small swimming pool - more of a wading pool - so a little of a disappointment. The hotel has 2 beach side units which were part of a larger complex that is currently going through a financial restructuring. Plan on a couple spending $200 a day on food if eat at the hotel, but the food was extremely good. There is also another unrelated restaurant/bar next door.
