No elevators, cigarette smell in hallways and rooms. NOT what I like in a hotel.

Wrong room and nobody empowered to make a decision

Cons: Follow through with reservations. Empowering people to make decisions. Use bleach to get rid of the mold. Invest in new wash cloths
Location: Padre Island, Wild life refuges
Requested a handicap room with two beds. Called the day before to confirm and they had it booked as handicap with 1 king. We asked that they put us in a 2 bed handicap room which they confirmed over the phone. We arrived they had us in a 2 bed standard room with no handicap rooms available. They tried to find a hotel near by that had a handicap room. When they found it they told me they would refund our cost and we could go to the other hotel. The problem with this was that we had booked with them with a special rate and the other hotel would charge 3 times more. So we sucked it up and stayed in the standard room. The next day when we were out we called to see if they could move us into any handicap room. Over the phone they said yes and would reserve it for us. We got to the hotel less than an hour later and nobody knew what we were talking about and it took them an hour to figure out how to get us into a handicap room. This room was a king room so one of us had to sleep on a roll around. Other noteworthy items. Rooms smelled very damp and musty. They only put 3 sets of towels in a room (some had stains on them). Some of the wash cloths were threadbare so badly there were holes in them. One day house keeping only left 3 bath towels and no wash cloths or face towels. The front desk could not get us wash cloths because everything was locked up by house keeping. Also mold in tile grout and floor tile grout stained.

Recent stay

Pros: I liked conveinance of shuttle service to the airport and a resturant available.
Cons: Caulking in the bathroom.
Location: The hotel is not close to other resturants or shopping unless you do not mind to walk, There are stores across the highway but not able to cross too.
The hotel had a very friendly staff. The resturant on site has very good food and enjoyable entertainment at thee Sunday brunc. I didn't want to leave. The room was clean. The hotel has been working on refreshing the place with new paint. The only negative thing I observed is in the bathroom needed some updated caulking around some areas. The maid service was great. I would suggest this hotel to anyone.

Family Emergency

I went out to Brownsville as an emergency because we had a death in the family. But the hallways and restroom left a lot to desire. I expected a lot better for a Holiday Inn and was VERY disappointed. The staff and neighborhood were nice and the beds also, but not he restrooms. The ac made a horrible noise. At some point I thought it would break!
