Can't fault this hotelPosted Apr 11, 2012
Pros: Location, breakfast, comfort
Stayed for three nights over Easter. I really cannot fault this hotel. It is a small place, in a superb situation on the banks of the Damse Vaart canal. The room was large, well-equipped, immaculate and very comfortable. Siska, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent - a full continental buffet, complete with boiled eggs, meat and cheese. There is free on-road parking two minutes walk away and if that's full (and I only couldn't get a space once), there is a free public car park about five minutes walk away. Damme is a beautiful, historic little town (really only a village), with some very good (although quite expensive) restaurants. Brugge is only a short drive away (about ten minutes to the centre) down the banks of the canal - park in the huge station car park for 2-3 euro and get free return bus tickets to the Markt in the heart of the city. There is also a paddle steamer which runs down the canal every couple of hours which makes a nice 35 minute trip.

Good ImpressionPosted Dec 23, 2011
Location: The B&B is about 4km from Bruges train station and from there it is 5 mins walk across the park to the centre.
We stayed just one night but we had a very good impression of this B&B. Our room overlooked the canal and was at the front of the house but it was quiet and a nice view. The bathroom was immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was fab with all the ingredients nice and fresh. A very pretty square is just around the corner for the B&B with pubs and restaurants. Free public parking on the opposite side of the road from the B&B. Would definitely recommend

Excellent hotel close to Bruges.Posted Dec 6, 2011
Location: We were visiting Bruges Christmas Markets and were able to see Bruges before checking in at hotel and then drove back into Bruges for the evening. the hotel is only 10 mins drive from the City. It was a very quiet, pretty village with a windmill and during the summer there is a paddle steamer that takes visitors directly to Bruges.
We booked this hotel for one night as we wanted to go to Bruges for the Christmas Markets. It was excellent! 10 mins from centre of Bruges, easy to get to, lovely quiet village - no shops just restaurants! The hotel itself was lovely. Very small, well looked after, very clean and comfortable. The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. All in all and excellent place to stay! We loved it and would stay there again.

Hotel de Speye-the best base for BruggesPosted Nov 28, 2011 on Hotels.com
This hotel was absolutely wonderful-spotless, fabulous breakfast, extremely helpful host. You need a car to stay here and get into Brugges. The advertised canal ride from Damme to Brugge leaves you about 2 miles from the city center so you need your car. This hotel was so wonderful and the village of Damme was so quaint that the need for a car to tour Brugge is a minor inconvenience. No restaurant but several are within easy walking distance. Nothing negative about this bed and breakfast!
