“OK but tired”

The hotel was clean, a bit too close to the I-95 for quiet comfort, and seemed a bit tired. The front desk staff were friendly and there were no real issues, but some of its immediate competitors looked fresher.

“Not Recommended”

Will not return nor recommend this hotel. Was advertised as a 3 star hotel - 2 at most. Motel has been renovated, but still is worn and very aged.

“Worn out”

This is a motel that has been mildly refurbished but should have been totally torn down and rebuilt. There are Motel 6's on the road that are in better overall condition than this one. On check in, got placed on second level (walk up), thought the place was empty. If you want to experience motel stays in the '60s, the room was clean and the basics were there...but the motel and road travel world have moved on, but this place hasn't. For the money, even through Expedia, you can do far better.

“Will stay often...”

I would recommend this hotel to anybody staying in the area. It was incredibly clean and maintained. The hotel has been renovated nicely. The lobby was beautiful, breakfast area neat and comfortable, and the rooms were nice with modern linens and amnenties. Would expect to pay more. The hotel pool/patio area was very clean and quiet. Definately reccomend pool side accomodations.

Area recommendations

Definately recommend a visit to St. Simon's Island. Play at the beach, shop the local stores, and eat some wonderful, affordable seafood.

“Clarion Hotel...hardly!”

After seeing the initial reviews and pictures of this "hotel" I must have missed the description of this being an out of date motor lodge. Although the rooms were very clean and quiet, it is not even close to being a Clarion hotel. It looks more like a motor lodge from the 50's with ancient rooms and furnishings. The hotels next door were so much nicer that we went in and got their info for our next trip. Shame on Clarion for gouging customers for a mediocre "hotel." Additionally, if you are hungry, don't order from the Chinese restaurant across the street. I never knew Chinese food could be inedible. They proved me wrong.

Area recommendations

Go to the Comfort Inn at this exit or the Econolodge at the next exit north of here.

“Very Good for Over Night Stay”

“I'll be staying somewhere else next time”

While the service at the hotel is great the maintenance of the room seems to be lacking. Everything seems to be a bit run-down and instead of fixing things properly they seem to be taking shortcuts. Ex: My toilet wasn't flushing properly because the chain that conects inside was broken and they used a paperclip and string to fix it. There are several hotels right next to this one and will be trying another one next time I am in the area.

Area recommendations

Savannah is only about an hour north and is worth the trip!

“Clean room and was very comfortable. Big place, so we didn't hear a thing.”

For a place to hang your hat for the night, get some quiet, sleep comfortably at a reasonable price, I recommend it. The front desk lady was so very sweet and over the top helpful. We ate at Shoneys around the corner. MISTAKE!! It is awful. We should have gone to the Cracker Barrel. I would go again without reservation. Oh, I told them about Shoneys in the morning and they said they NEVER would have recommended eating there either. Very clean, everything was spotless.

Traveler's tip

If you go to St. Simons Island, do look up the reviews on Barbara Jeans Restaurant before going there. Mixed reviews at best. Mediocre in my opinion, but I had the Chicken Fried Steak (tough), corn side (canned and tinny tasting), and red beans and rice (totally awesome). Cornbread was sweet and wonderful. Not worth the price in my opinion. Wife had the shrimp and said it was outstanding.

“won't go back”

First they sent us to a non-smoking room that smelled of smoke. Then they changed our room to a room that had a door latch that worked backwards and we had trouble getting in. Hotel is quite old and has only outside room access. Not well maintained. Staff could have been friendlier.
