“Clean and quiet with good wireless connections”

Overlooking the Botanic Garden and a huge skyscraper, the place is quiet and feels somewhat distant from the usual Bruxelles chaos although it is 3 minutes walk from Rogier and 5 from Gare du Nord. Difficult to locate at first also due to various constructions (get a detailed map in advance). No restaurants or bars nearby, one needs to go to Rogier. Rooms are tiny but clean and the bed was firm and shower strong. I-bahn wireless connection in the rooms. Only weird thing: there is a coffe maker in the room but once I had used up the initial 2 little packs of coffee and the sugar, the next days no replacements. Perhaps I should have asked the reception... Finally, it must be said that although the place where the hotel is perfectly fine and close to a Police station (or at least a pleace where lots of police cars park) going down toward the railway station another 500/700 meters, there is the red light district.

“Basic but good”

I'd heard some bad reviews on the Expedia site after booking and was a little anxious about the place, but the truth is it's not all that bad. It's on the edge of the red light district - not that it was a problem, think Amsterdam rather than seedy area of town with 'curb crawlers'. The hotel was clean, bed comfortable and the staff friendly. Yes the double bed was made by two singles joined...but this is normal for continental Europe. Never had breakfast so I can't comment on that. The Hotel is within walking distance of town (30 mins) and is near to the Metro system. The nearest Metro stop is 'Rogier', on the 55/56 line from Gare de Midi (Eurostar stop). I would advise staying if opulence is of little importance and you're looking for a cheap break.

“Ok, but not more”

The location, for my purpose, was the primary advantage, and the price was indeed very attractive. Breakfast was good by hotel standards. Main disappointment: the bed. Low, narrow, and with a very lumpy pillow. I had a single room. There is a small kettle in the room and tea and coffee was provided. However, they were not replaced as part of the daily cleaning! Also, cigarette smoke from either neighboring rooms or the street penetrated the ventilation, which was annoying.

“Good Budget Hotel”

I stayed at the Hampshire Inn with my friend and my baby. Over all we were impressed with the politeness (and english) of the staff, our room was comfortable, a good size, and the breakfast was ok. Our only grumble was the cot they provided was a travel cot and one of the sides wasn't attached at the base. My child could have easily rolled over and fallen out. I told the staff and they said they couldn't fix it and there wasn't another one - so he had to sleep in my bed. Other than this we were very happy for a budget break.

“Coould do better”

The condition of the hotel was very good. It was modern and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean. The only exception on the cleanliness were stains, cigarette burns on the bed sheets, and they did not smell too fresh either. It was a disappointment to find there was no stock in the mini bar, and find that the downstairs bar did not sell bottles of water. There was no iron in the room and we had difficulties trying to get one from reception (she didnt know where it was). We requested a double bed but got given two twin beds pushed together which was rather annoying. The location of this hotel was not so good. Only 50 yards around the corner was a brothel, which my girfriend found uncomfortable through-out our stay, as we had to walk past it every evening on our way back to the hotel. There is also a strip club further down the road from the brothel. We only wished we had stayed in Antwerp or Brugges. We found Brussels quite dull and dirty compared to the other two. On the whole the hotel was ok, but location was rather dodgy...only good thing was that the train station was within walking distance. Staff quite friendly, the bar situation is odd though.

“Inexpensive hotel in trashy Brussels district”

If you don't mind an overpriced hotel with full trashcans and no wireless in the rooms next to the red light district by the trainstation, this is the place for you.

“The shower from hell”

I guess the hotel wasn't bad, but it was really old and the decoration was not very inviting to saty in the room at all. The bar holding our shower was loose and the first time we used it, it started spinning and we got the entire bathroom flooded, after that we had to shower always holding the shower head with one hand, what made it very uncomfortable. Location is good though, very close to the Grand Platz and walking distance (althoug trough quite scary neibourghood) to Gare de midi.

Brussels North - Rogier Square, Brussels, Belgium: Brussels’ smallest district, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode lies north-east of the city centre, near the Botanic Gardens and the Gare du Nord. It’s a lively, densely populated neighbourhood of North African and Turkish communities with lots of young people. Fruit stalls and ethnic restaurants provide plenty of local colour. Cultural happenings take place in La Botanique, an arts centre set in a 19th-century greenhouse.
