One night in BucharestPosted Jan 24, 2015
Pros: Centrally located
Cons: Staff education regarding travelers needs
Disappointed about room choice. Hotel was going through some renovations and the repair crew was working diligently through the night. Many empty rooms were available on a different wing but the receptionist " did not think I would want a quite room" wondering if she was thinking at all?

Best luxurious hotel and location in BucharestPosted Jan 18, 2015
Best luxurious hotel and location in Bucharest. Location in front of square of the Athenee Palace and what ir was the Royal palace. 5-10 minutos walk to old Town which is pedistrian touristic site. Clase to othe mejor attractions in the city. They booked me the trip to Bran Castle (Dracula Castle) in full day trip that also stops to see other castles like Peles and the city of Brasov. Well recomended tour.

Meets, but does not exceed, expectationsPosted Dec 23, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location. One of the best hotel breakfasts in the world. Great people-watching. Best hotel concierge I have ever met.
Cons: More of the staff could be more bought in to exceeding rather than merely meeting expectations.
Location: In the absolute heart of the city. Theaters and concert halls and the national art museum within 5 minutes walk. 12 minutes walk to "Old Town").
The Athenee Palace is the most famous hotel in Bucharest, and it is not hard to see why. It is utterly central, diagonally across the street from the former royal palace, and for a century anyone who is anyone in that city has passed through the elegant lobby. The breakfast is among the best in the world, and certain staff members (chief concierge Vasile, Daniela the daytime floor manager at breakfast) are everything one would expect at a grand hotel. Conversely, the rooms meet but in no way exceed standards for a good hotel, and most of the staff, while quite professional, are merely that. Beds are excellent, desk chair is comfortable, all the mod cons are there, but the rooms lack the character that can now be found at some of Bucharest's boutique hotels. Everyone gets there job done well, but most without enthusiasm and without going that extra mile. Again, there is a contrast to some of Bucharest's boutique hotels where you feel like the staff are a team continually striving for excellence (while, conversely, I don't know a hotel where the staff are as uniformly competent and professional: they may be on autopilot, but the flight is smooth).

sehr edles StadthotelPosted Nov 4, 2014

Great building, old rooms and amenitiesPosted Nov 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
Nice "historical" hotel. The rooms and restroom could use a renovation. Also disappointed with the wifi fee : Bucharest is a very well connected city, paying for wifi doesn't make any sense.

Very centrally located.Posted Oct 20, 2014
Rooms are very clean and comfortable. This was a short stay but quite enjoyable. Hotel is near city center with lots of good restaurants and shopping. The hotel is adjacent to the Atheneum and another main concert and entertainment venue. Short walking distance from the main Bucharest boulevards and high end shopping district along Calea Victoriei.
