“great place of heritage”
A charming and relaxing city with friendly people - great walking with family and friends enjoying unusual mix of eras embodied in the architecture, street music, great dining, silent night streets... and, of course, unforgettable hot springs...
“budapests landmark hotel”
certainly stay at gellert again, great price for a taste of old europe at its best. The complimentary acess to spas and other facilities made stay that much more pleasurable in december.
“we love the classic hotels”
We love the historic hotels of the world and the Gellert is certainly one of the classics. It was especially nice that it was not terriably expensive for such a grand place. I was there for the world triathlon championship so i had my bicycle in the room and it rained several of the race days. The staff was very helpful to me and all the athletes dealing with wet bikes in such a grand hotel. I used the hot baths every days after races.
“Check the room before you unpack.”
First night was hot,no breeze,no view and asked for a better room and moved first thing to accross the hallway to a much better room. Breakfast buffet was very extensive with a small offering of bio and low calorie foods including fresh carrot juice. I would stay there again, but I would look at the room before I committed to spend the night. Be advised the "spa" services are utilitarian and get into the pools early. It is easy to book tours/services/taxi with the front desk.
“Historic, great spa, good location”
This historic hotel is well located adjacent to a tram and bus line that provides ready access to downtown Pest on the opposite side of the Danube, and to the Castle Hill area. Staff is professional. Food is great in restaurant, which also has a great view. The historic spa is easily accessed from within the hotel, and is free for guests. The business center staff is friendly, speak fluent English and can provide tickets for trams and tourist information. Breakfast buffet is free and lavish. Negatives - no free wi-fi, no free access to computers in business centers (about 5 Euro for 30 minutes) and only available until 7 p.m..
“Mature couple”
We like the Gellert Baths and the hotel location. The breakfast is great.
“We loved it.”
The hotel and our room were beautiful. We enjoyed our balcony and view of the Danube. Service was great as was the food in the restaurant. Having the baths attached was a real plus. The only drawback was not having air conditioning on some of the hottest days of summer (104 F). Still we enjoyed our stay.
“No air conditioning!”
The price was right (for a 3-day special) but the room had no air conditioning at all and the room outlets looked ancient. I also found a big bug in the bathroom, which may not be the hotel's direct reponsibility since I had to open the windows as far as possible to get some air into the room. But I saw another guest complain to the front desk about the same things. The business office, front desk people and maintenance personnel are very good, though, and the mineral springs worth going to.
“Disappointed”
We had been in Hungary 4 years ago and loved the Gellert Bath. We figured the hotel would be fabulous after being at the spa, however the hotel was outdated and a huge disappointment. The hotel was so hot that none of us slept at all thru the night. We also had a huge bug in our bathroom and the room itself was very outdated and did not look in any way impressive at all. The hotel staff were fabulous and professional. We Enjoyed being close to the spa, however I cannot tell you how sad we were to take our family there and see rooms in such a condition as they were. The outside of the hotel and the lobby area are absolutely beautiful, but that is not the case in the rooms themselves.
“The toilet was in a seperate room from the bathroom, like a cell.”
Very nice, the only bad the bathroom...
