Good location, you get an apartmentPosted Nov 21, 2013
Pros: Location and you get an apartment.
Cons: The door lock was a little shaky.
Location: With bus very close to downtown.
Good location. The bust stops in front of the hotel, and it is downtown in 5 minutes. You get a kitchen, a bathroom and a room. The room is not huge, but it is OK.

Outdated building yet economicalPosted Aug 4, 2013
Pros: The hotel staff was polite and competent.
Cons: Beds were merely adequate, not the most comfortable with somewhat rough sheeting.
Hotel staff was very friendly (we appreciated their dry humor) as was the wait staff in the restaurant. Bathroom shower was a tight fit and leaked onto the floor—soaking everything in its wake. Old tube television with scant channels and a strange remote that turned on the tv by pressing the 1 button. Air conditioning was a pleasant surprise since it was fairly hot out, and it quikly got chilly. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of fresh fruit, veggies and meats. We drove a rental and arrived on the weekend, so parking on the street was not a problem. Distance to the Old Town section would be too great for most on foot, but concierge was knowledgable about transit options. Don't expect a ritzy room, but do use the money you'll save on a more expensive river tour.

Great place to stay in BudapestPosted Jun 1, 2013
Pros: Friendliness of staff
Cons: Not much around the hotel.
Location: Although there is not much right around the hotel, the bus stops right in front of it and it is just a few minutes ride to get to all the shops.
What really makes this hotel a pleasure is the friendliness of the staff. They go out of their way to help you. We were given a map on check-in and the bus routes, the tram and the places we wanted to see were circled with the information we needed to get there. Our room was upgraded - just because - and the room was very roomy with lots of space to unpack and store our belongings. The restaurant was a little pricey but good. The bus stops right in front of the hotel. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Great hotel, would stay againPosted May 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
For the price, this is a great hotel. They provide a top level of service, rooms are clean and comfortable. I have nothing bad at all to say about this hotel. It is about a 15 min walk to the hop on hop off bus. It is about a 20 min walk to the river / historical points of interest but if you don't want to walk taxis are cheap. I would stay here again.

Good locationPosted Apr 1, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel is a bit dated, but we had a good sized room with a very nice bathroom. It is extremely central which was fantastic. The hotel staff was nice but wasn't always in the know about things. Overall I would recommend this hotel to people looking for a cheaper alternative to the big chain hotels. Appreciated the free breakfast too, that was good.

Excellent food & staff.Posted Sep 23, 2012
Pros: Staff and restaurant
Cons: Noise, distance from city
Location: About 15 minites on bus From the main centre
We really enjoied our time in hotel Charles. They have excellent staff who were so helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is noisey so I wouldn't recommend it to light sleepers or people with young children, however it was perfect for us as we came home late each night. They had the most fantastic restaurant with excellent dishes of a really high standard. We would recommend it to a friend and would be happy to stay there again.

Hotel CharlesPosted Sep 23, 2012 on Hotels.com
The hotel is located on the Buda side of the city, and the best way to travel to the center is by bus (the stop is right outside the hotel), or by taxi, which the staff can call for you (do not, under any circumstances, just jump into any taxi on the street, or it can end up being VERY expensive). Hotel has its own secure parking, and the room was okay - clean, with a fridge, free wi-fi and info brochures...the trick that they do if you book a cheap room (I've seen this mentioned by other reviewers too), is to give you a non-airconditioned room which overlooks a busy street, and offer you 'upgrades' like a/c and quieter room for small extra charge...pretty sneaky, but I didn't mind, as it wasn't too hot and I sleep well. Breakfast was decent, offers a good choice. The best thing about this hotel was the high professionalism of its staff, it's obvious that they are very well trained in service, and can help you with absolutely anything, including tours and transport tickets. Overall, I would very much recommend this place for a short vacation.

Excellent value for moneyPosted Jul 8, 2012
Pros: Top class helpful, polite reception staff where nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: Lack of english speaking TV channel
Location: On busy main road but extremely good for getting around as bus stops at the hotel.
A very good four night break at this hotel on the outskirts of Budapest - we would recommend this hotel to others without hesitation. The saff on reception are extremely helpful - well over and above what we expected. They assisted us daily on our different trips - advising the best way to get there and where we needed to change buses, trains or metro - to the point of detailing all this on a map for us. All travel tickets can also be purchased at reception. The hotel is situated on a busy main road, but we were not disturbed at all during the night by traffic. Whilst we did not particular bother about the TV perhaps it would have been nice to just catch the news in Engish but we did not find one english speaking channel. We had no option other than to upgrade to a deluxe room with air conditioning as the temperature was around 40F and we did this easily by simply emailing the hotel before we left home and they responded quickly to our request. The room was exceptionally spacious with a little dining area, kettle and two rings, more like an apartment We never once heard any other guests coming in and out of nearby rooms - so no disturbances at all from banging doors, flushing loos etc. Breakfast was very good and much better than we expected in a 3 star hotel and we ate in the restaurant one evening which was also very good, reasonably priced with excellent service. A good base to get around at a very affordable price, excellent staff and service.
