“City Matyas - good”
Nice place that is near to the busy pedestrian street of Budapest and near the Danube shore. Ideally located and good value for your money. Free computor use/internet in the lobby is a nice bonus. Front desk helpful re: how to get to places and how to use metro/bus system, spoke english well. Exchanged money at the front desk for fair rates.
“Will definitely come back to this hotel...”
When it comes to value for money, we were very pleased with this hotel. It is exceptionally well located - just seconds away from the Vaci pedestrian zone, a few minutes' walk from the main market, and around the corner from the Danube. The room itself was nothing special but the sheets were starched clean, so we were happy. Our only complaint was that the radio didn't work. There was no hair dryer, but reception was more than happy to loan me one when I asked. We didn't have breakfast here, so can't comment on that, but we did go to the restaurant one afternoon for coffee, where we had stunning views of the frescoed walls and good service. It was raining one of the days we were there, so we were thinking about visiting one of Budapest's famous Turkish Baths. We inquired at reception and they were very helpful - they recommended the best one to go to at that time of year (April) and we were able to pay through the hotel in advance. He also explained clearly how to get there by bus or foot. Very helpful. All in all, this is an excellent hotel for travellers. As I said, the hotel itself is not particuarly fancy or special, but it was clean, the service was good, the location is fantastic, and it was excelletn value for money. I would definitely stay here again.
“Fantastic location and very good value for money”
This hotel offers a great location for accessing all the major sights and is also very close to a metro station. The rooms are basic but clean, and very well sound-proofed. I will definitely stay there again; great rates for what you get.
“Good location, clean, inexpensive”
Décor of the hotel is dated, however room was spotlessly clean and comfortable for the money. Breakfast was excellent and the location is great as a base to explore Budapest. Only word of warning would be that the air con in our room didn't work which was not a problem with it being winter but I believe it can get pretty warm in the summer. Overall hotel was great for a short break on a budget, if you are looking for luxury and top class service try elsewhere.
“happy traveller”
very conveniently placed hotel, the exterior apprach to the hotel was unusual but the room was a good size, comfortable and very clean. En-suite was excellent. Hotel staff were very helpful and polite in that east european brusque way that is quite endearing. Breakfasts were more than ample with plenty of hot and cold choices. Overslept one day because it was so quiet. No. 2 tram stopped virtually outside. Thoroughly recommended and I will happily go again.
“Unbeatable location, very nice”
The hotel was fantastic for a three star hotel. Firstly, location - it's right off the main Vaci pedestrian street, the Elizabeth bridge, within minutes to subway stops, tourist offices, shopping, restaurants, etc. (and you can walk everywhere - 20 minutes to the palace across the bridge, 25 minutes to the parliament). The hotel itself is very clean and nice, the rooms were absolutely great and comfortable. Had all the amenities of a higher-star hotel (mini bar, room service, AC, size, etc). The only non-fantastic part of the hotel was the bathroom - the shower was absolutely tiny. But I'd highly recommend it to others. The front staff are amazing and go out of their way to help you book tours, trips, dinners, etc. Definitely going back there next time I'm in Budapest.
“Don't despair upon entry!”
When we first turned up at the hotel it did not look up to much. Grotty enterance, dead evergreens at the door way... thought I had picked a loser. However we were pleasantly surprised by our very clean room and the confortable bed even if the shower head needed a spot of repair! Location excellent, the Danube being visible from the enternace, and Vaci Utca only a few minutes a way. Not a place to stay if you enjoy out and out luxury but not bad either. Fridge in the room was handy and CNN put us to sleep.
“Good Location! Great Value!!”
Hotel was in a very good location and great value for money especially as it was over New Year!! The only real disappointment with this hotel was that the water (shower) was cold.....
“Excellent character Hotel”
Loved the building, right next to Elizabeth bridge and a very short walk to metro station, fantastic location and a very tranquil hotel, right on top on the top shopping street.
“Great Location in Budapest”
The Matyas is located right on the Danube at the end of the Erzebet Bridge. It is a budget hotel that provides clean but basic facilities in its rooms. The Hotel also provides a good standard buffet breakfast in a charming cellar restaurant. The staff are helpful and friendly, but most of all the location is perfect being 2 minutes from the main shopping areas and the river.
