Spectacular hotelPosted Mar 20, 2015
Tha Alvear Palace is truly spectacular. We travel a lot and have stayed in some of the leading hotels in the world. From the Peninsular in Hong Kong to Raffles in Singapore to the Oriental in Bangkok and the Plaza and Waldorf in New York City, there is no nicer hotel than the Alvear. Fabulous staff, lovely restaurants and a great location. Not inexpensive, but worth it.

A Great Hotel in BAPosted Mar 11, 2015 on Hotels
We had a very nice stay at the Alvear Palace. We did have a maintenance issue in our room (water leaking from the ceiling) on the first night, and the hotel was able to fix the issue on the second try. We also overheard other people on our hallway complaining about maintenance issues. Bottom line--you may have problems with your room, but the hotel is reasonably prompt about fixing any issues. Our biggest disappointment in the facilities was that there is no terrace to sit and read, have a drink, etc. You can only sit in the lobby, which is a bit of a letdown when the weather is nice. Breakfast was nice in the mornings, although the hotel serves the exact same thing every day. Our dinner at La Bourgogne was lovely, and the wine tasting with the restaurant's sommelier was absolutely the best thing we did in BA (it's VERY worth the $50pp charge).

Great service in a magnificent propertyPosted Mar 8, 2015 on Hotels
The first hotel of the many I have stayed in which the laundry service cares to look for and sew on the missing buttons of my clothes without being asked.
