“Fine Boutique hotel in San Telmo”

I am always impressed when a hotel staff person takes a chunk of time to provide sightseeing assistance. The staff at the Gurda Hotel was immensely helpful. If you are an independent traveler, you know that an efficient day of sightseeing usually means preparation. Well run boutique hotels such as this one help you maximize your valuable time, making arrangements and providing useful insights. The room we had was clean and comfortable. It was also a bit quirky with an odd loft providing a second bed. An more ideal location would be closer the main square in San Telmo, but the 3 or 4 block walk was fine by us.

“Great Vacation”

This hotel was ideal for my daughter and me for a 5 night stay to experience Buenos Aires. There are only seven rooms so the service is very personal. The staff were SO friendly and helpful. They recommended and booked a tango show for us, helped with transportation both to the airport and with local buses etc. and generally provided any information we needed about the city. Our room was bigger than I expected, clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was good with a selection of juices, fruit, pastries, bread etc as well as eggs to order. San Telmo is an interesting area. There is a street market on Sunday which is very popular and there are restaurants nearby. You can walk to some of the other tourist attractions - Plaza Mayo, Puerta Madero. There are also buses nearby or you can take cabs. Although the area is generally considered safe, we would usually take cabs at night. At all times you need to be aware of your surroundings in Buenos Aires. If you like to be in a large hotel (think Hilton) in an area with lots of big hotels and American tourists, then this hotel may not be for you. If you want to have a more authentic experience, then I would wholeheartedly recommend the Gurda Tango.

“Aliyia”

The staff at Gurda Tango was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable about Buenos Aries and made the trip very pleasant and relaxing. They taught us a lil Spanish, taught us how and where to catch the bus, subte and walk around B.A. We had gotten a lot of flack for picking the San Telmo area for our stay but I feel it was a great choice and we felt safe everywhere we went even at night (we were two women traveling). Make sure you stay late on Sunday or all day for the street market and go to Cafe San Juan which is in walking distance from the boutique hotel...room 5 is small (esp for 2 women with lots of luggage), so if you need more space request a bigger room they changes us to room 7 and it was great...al in all an excellent place to stay. FYI-I wouldn't bother going to rojo tango(very broadway esc)...just go to the hotel for dinner or a drink...

The hotel is very clean with great help on reception. Nothing is too much trouble. It is great value for money with spacious bedrooms and separate areas for breakfast and a quiet and cool courtyard for reading or taking refreshments which includes a bar. At first the area may not seem great but it is actually very well situated with some good bars and restaurants nearby and free tango shows in the square just 5 minutes on the way into town.

“Experience San Telmo”

San Telmo is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, and was a wonderful place to stay to get a feeling of being with portenos instead with tourists. It is convenient to the city center and was a wonderful area to walk around. Hotel staff was very helpful.

“Characterful in central San Telmo location”

The rooms have lovely character features. The staff were very helpful. The location is great for visiting La Boca and San Telmo. Great location for Sundays when the flea markets are on.

We stayed here on our last night in Buenos Aires. It was really refreshing to have such a friendly welcome when we arrived too, because we had been traveling for two weeks and were exhausted! The hotel is about 5 blocks from the main square and Sunday market (which I highly recommend.) It felt a little out of the way to walk especially at night, but the staff made us feel safe and once we got to the main square it was fine. The hotel is extremely safe, with someone always on staff to come let you in to the main doors. For breakfast there was a really nice girl that made us eggs for breakfast (which we loved since we had been eating bread for breakfast for about two weeks). The staff was all very helpful, pulling out a map and telling us where to go that would be good for the day. The only downside was that the shower wall could have used a new paint job, but other than that.....it's an old building in Buenos Aires, and you can appreciate the beauty in other ways.

“Friendly hotel needs more maintenance”

Very friendly members of staff, which were very helpful. The hotel is well located and the rooms are nice. However they do need maintenance (light bulbs missing, picture hooks with no images, marked walls etc.). The breakfast was very simple and disappointing, with mostly products from packages.
