A Grand Hotel, not quite in San TelmoPosted Dec 20, 2014
The good news: The pictures don't lie. It truly is a grand, elegant hotel. The lobby is huge; the Christmas tree down there could have been in Macy's in New York. There's a wide marble staircase in the lobby, too, and a grand Ladies' Room with armchairs, etc. The room itself was also large and comfy, with tall windows that opened up on to an almost-balcony. And the price was good. The bad news: it's not really in San Telmo. We arrived at midnight and set out to have a glass of wine, only to turn back after a block, due to the general dodgy feel of the immediate neighborhood at that time of night. In the morning everything felt fine and dandy, however. So it's a good place to stay if you want to be near San Telmo, but stay clear of the surrounding blocks at night. The staff are helpful and happy to call cabs.

Buenos Aires, ArgentinaPosted Dec 9, 2014
Location: Location fine. Buenos Aires not a walking city- sights really spread out. Cabs or publid transit required to get around.
We had no problem finding the hotel. The staff went out of their way to help us with tickets, directions, internet etc. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent. We also had drinks in the lobby bar after a long day on the town. Again no problem with anything. I would recommend this Hotel Scala in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Very comfortable hotel with excellent locationPosted Dec 9, 2014
Pros: It has a big lobby for the visitors. The floors have wide aisles and look very clean always. The buffet for breakfast is outstanding. Comfortable room
Cons: There was lack of cordiality in the staff members of reception and no women in the area. Attitude of service and orientation is a must with visitors.
Location: Excellent location. Very close to underground transportation and buses going everywhere. Negative is the presence of alcoholics on the street.
It was my first visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I think that my choice of the hotel was very good and our stay - my husband and I - was very pleasant. If there is another opportunity to go back to Buenos Aires, we will probably return to the hotel.

Great hotel.Posted Nov 23, 2014
We spent only one night there but everything was okay, felt comfortable. I can mention only two things: 1, my wife missed the chocolate from the pillow. 2, there was no remote controller to the TV (was too tired to ask for it from the staff)

Good hotel right on 9 de Julio - but eat elsewherePosted Nov 19, 2014
Pros: Room, lobby, service.
Cons: Food quality; tap labels.
Location: The hotel is a pleasant 20-minute walk from the thick of things (Florida street, the obelisk) -- but the neighborhood of San Telmo is rather sketchy.
This hotel is very comfortable. Both the room and lobby would not be out of place in North America. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the restaurant: the food is unbearably bland. For example, I ordered for lunch gnocchi with bolognese sauce (the gnocchi were glue-like; the "sauce" consisted of insipid ground meat with a bit of tomato sauce); for dinner I ordered grilled chicken with fries (the chicken was really, really dry; the fries were the opposite of crispy). The buns they served on both occasions were seriously pale and sticky. In a country where food is as good as it is in Argentina, this is not acceptable. A note of caution: the bathroom includes a bidet -- a most civilized Argentine practice. Unfortunately, in the room where I staid the hot and cold water taps were mislabeled: the one marked F, for fría (cold), actually opened the hot water. Fortunately, the hot water takes a while to come out in full force, so no real harm was done...

City Center ComfortPosted Nov 2, 2014
Just came in from Uruguay for our last day of vacation before flying back. I knew nothing about this hotel, I had booked it a couple of months in advance. I was pleasantly surprised by the location, the cleanliness and the good value. Prices for everything in the room mini bar to the restaurant were very reasonable. I would stay here again without hesitation.
