Don't stay at HoJo's in Burlington

Posted Jul 2, 2015
Neither A/C or heat worked. Carpet threadbear and water pressure was so low it was impossible to take a shower. Staff working under poor conditions. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. I used to travel for a living and this may well be the worst place I have stayed.

Howard Johnsons West Burlington, IA

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Location to where I was working
Cons: Not over charging for a substandard room
Location: Plenty of shopping and eating places
Hotel was extremly overpriced. Ive stayed in better hotels for a lot less money. Went through an exteamly long booking proccess to see if my corporate lodging card would be accepted for payment. Poor comunication between CLC, Expedia and Howard Johnsons. Expedia called the hotel direct, the hotel said they would accept coorporate lodgeing card for payment, when i got to the hotel staff said they would not. Hotel staff was extremley rude!........Bathroom sink eas full of dirty water and would not drain.......Extemley poor facility for $149 per night!!!!! would have been ok with sittuation for $49 per night. More representitive of a sub standard hotel. Very dissapointed. Would never recomend this location to anyone!!!

You won't get what you see from the website

Posted Jun 16, 2015
Pros: The only thing I liked about this hotel, was the help we received from Kendall.
Cons: Everything in that hotel needs to be improved. I don't have enough space to list everything.
Location: FunCity for the kids and Catfish Bend Casino for the adults.
The website shows these beautiful, quaint rooms. There are a few but still aren't what you see from the pictures on the website. The only thing that was pictured accurately was the pool and bar area. We were given a room on the outside that was the dirtiest room I can imagine. The carpet was so gross that I would not touch it with my bare feet. The bed and bedding were stained and torn and had cigarette burns. I found beer bottle caps on the floor by the lamp, a wet dirty towel behind the bathroom door and a acrylic fingernail on the floor. In one of the drawers was a broken spoon, twist ties and a dirty tissue. The rooms were we in were also for the construction workers and my fellow soccer mom and I didn't feel very safe. The only saving grace in this whole trip was Kendall B. She got us new comforters for the night and was able to get us an inside room for the next night. That room was better, but still not what is pictured on the website. Kendall confronted the housekeeper who supposedly cleaned that room. The housekeeper told Kendall we were lying about the room. I have pictures as proof of the horrible conditions of that room. Also, they are asking way too much for those rooms. I feel like I was robbed.

Central location

At check in, the front desk lady was VERY rude. I'm from this town and was back for my moms funeral. Every time we walked in, we'd get funny looks from the employees of the hotel. We felt it was due to our race. Other front desk workers were very friendly. It was just the one and she gave serious attitude more times after that. If you don't like your job, then quit!!

This hotel needs a lot of updates. It looked nothing like it did in the pictures on the Internet. Wasn't very clean and the hotel staff was not friendly. Pool area was very nice but that was about it.

My husband and I never checked in. As we entered and went to the desk Asst. GM informanded us that the pool and hot tub were not working. I said great we are here for a relaxing weekend and wanted to use the pool and hot tub. She said she would make sure we were NOT charged because of the pool and hot tub. I have been charged and I am NOT freaking happy about this since we did not stay in the hotel. Deb Clar

Pool area was decorated well. Pool and jacuzzi were out of order. Lobby and pool area were very cold. Room was filthy. One pillow had no pillow case another pillow was dirty. Will never stay at this hotel again. We will spend the extra money and stay at the Pzzaz.

The pool and spa were out of order. That's the main reason I booked this hotel. The outside of the hotel looked run down. The room wasn't much better. The carpet was stained and ugly. Upon entering the room, there was a blanket of dust around the tv. The luggage rack had the silver part peeling off. One if the wash clothes had dried paint stuck on it. I didn't feel comfortable or safe in the room at all. The door wouldn't close by itself. We had to pull it hard to get it to shut behind us as we left. I work in a hotel. And let me tell you, the housekeeper who cleaned a room the way that one looked, would be instantly terminated. Terrible.

Nice and old

This hotel was built in 1907 and ddesigned after the French Quarter in Louisiana according to one of the corner stones. Very unique building, nice weight room big pool and the Tiki Bar was cool!

A shambles

Posted Dec 18, 2014
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Everything
Location: Awful place, very dreary. Almost a dungeon.
Hotel staff was pleasant but the whole facility looked run down and ready for demolition.
