Kurt Bay Haven LodgePosted Sep 21, 2013
Its a lodge, not a hotel. You get door codes and can come and go as you please. Easy 5 minute walk to the shops. Access the beach just across the street. Nice room. Comfy bed. Nothinf to complain about. Fully recommend a stay here. I will be back.

Perfect for me.Posted Dec 9, 2012 on Hotels.com
Yes, the room is small, but being alone that was not a problem. A bed for the night in clean quiet surroundings. Short walk to beach and restaurants. Parking not a problem as no time restrictions on main rd. Communal fridge was clean and just down the hall, like being at home. Air conditioning was great and owner Dave a nice helpful chap. Although no staff on premises, security was good. You will need mobile phone to enter premises initially and get instructions but system seems to work well.

Tiny, noisy and poorly managed.Posted Dec 2, 2012
Nice rooms. But tight unless in big area upstairs. Arrived during check-in time, but no one answered the gate buzzer nor no one answering the business' mobile or landline number. Tried several times. Eventually got inside the lodge (that has no reception desk nor staff on site) by another guest! Really inconvenient! No staff rang us back to check if we got in ok and actually during our stay never was spoken to by staff/manger nor owner. A little too relaxed by the business! Apparently the person we may have needed to see was having a surf, during check-in time.... Otherwise good location and easy to get in and out of. No parking by the business is a let down. The rooms are real small and all off a hallway with little noise privacy. Generally our reaction was it was overpriced nearly shared accommodation.

Bay Haven LodgePosted Apr 4, 2012 on Hotels.com
I did not find the overall setup of this establisment to my liking as you were expected to share lounge and kitchen areas with strangers, this was not the impression given by the description on the net. The owner was not very helpful and seemed to be begrudgingly sharing his house with visitors. The use of the spa was off limits as well and this would have been a great incentive to stay there.

BEWARE!!! Not a 4-star lodgePosted Aug 5, 2009
So I went and reviewed the 4-star ratings, just to be on the safe side, and no, this was definitely NOT it... We arrived expectantly on Sunday morning to find the gate closed, lock box on a side (but no one gave us any codes). So, hour later we get in touch with someone on his cell and let him know we arrived. They promptly give us check-in time (not a minute early) and meet us in front of the open door. This was basically privately owned building of 5-6 studio rooms which share the hallway and TV room. Each studio has its own kitchenette, queen size bed, really small toilet/shower and wall mounted TV. Toilet/shower area was really small, never dried for the entire week we stayed and it smelled wet and moldy. The rest of the place was charming - nice front yard (seen in pictures), but few things were out of order - little pond, we could not make the TV in the shared area work and few other small distractions. I have to say that our towels arrived fresh every other day and owners were very courteous. However, it was a big surprise that they actually LIVE 3 doors down the hall in another room. So, overall, all of this didn't spoil our vacation, but if someone is looking for 4-star amenities and is easily bothered by the mentioned shortfalls - skip it!

Byrons WORST Hotel (it ain't a hotel by any stretch of the imagination)Posted Jun 30, 2009
I have to say that this particular property should be removed from Expedia's list. My wife and I booked this as our stay in Byron for our honeymoon and were extremely disappointed. Reasons as follows: Doesn't actually display the correct name on the front of the lodge. The proprietor wasn't there on the premises as he was too busy on a training course that day to be bothered to actually wait for us to arrive. The room itself was extremely small! The toilet and the shower are in a converted wardrobe and they have a blind that covers the shower for privacy. Not cool! The window latch in our bedroom was also broke TV is up near the roof and you need to crane your neck to watch it. Sink is next to the bed! The walls are paper thin so be prepared to be heard talking to your other half and also to hear other people The air con didn't work properly It's just not a 4 star property at all, by no stretch of the imagination. It is someones house that has been converted into 4 bedrooms. Would definitely suit people who want something simple but you wouldn't actually pay what we paid for it. Do yourself a favour and book something a lot better. There are tons more better places than this for the money in Byron. We moved to another hotel as we were so unhappy at this place.
