Nice hotel on the beach

Good location directly on the beach. Good just ok. Better eat fresh caught fish in small town down the street. Nice clean rooms. Try to get sea-view room. Beach quite windy.

Great potential, but not yet great.

Pros: great pool, great beach
Cons: front desk (and other) staff is very quick on saying no to every question. They could use some training at a Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton
Location: Hotel is in a very nice area, but getting to it requires a short drive through some dodgy looking villages. Overall felt very safe.
This hotel seriously under-performs and does not justify its 5 star rating or its prices. Facilities are great, and so is the beach. Front desk staff, as well as restaurant supervisors/maitre d's - tends to start every response with a "No". Breakfast buffet is served from 7:30 to 10:30 - which in a resort hotel at the beach seems way to short, especially for families with kids who get exhausted and during the day and tend to sleep late. The only place open for lunch between 12noon and 1:30 is the Bar where they serve a very limited menu of tapas so it seems like this place expects its non-spanish guests to switch to the Spanish meal times during their stay at the hotel. Again, somthing that affects a family's daily rhythm, if you can't eat properly at your usual meal time so you're basically forced to get in a car and drive somewhere else for lunch. Dinner options are plenty, and food quality is OK, but in our opinion do not justify the prices.

Average not much atmosphere

Pros: Nice courtyard and pool area
Cons: Lack of atmosphere but this may have been because the hotel was not busy - very few guests
Location: We did not like the location. It is a purpose built golf resort where in mid April it was quiet, the resort restaurants seemed still to be closed.
Average 5 star hotel nothing special in an average resort. The hotel was very quiet with few guests - it may have been better in the height of the season.

The Melia SP is a solid 4 star european hotel and the best hotel in the ghetto of hotels that service euro middle-class package tour clientele. This would be fine, but this hotel bills itself as a 5 star GL hotel which is an insult on many levels. We were asked to pay for the REQUIRED shower shoes to use the spa. Our shower had leaving from the last guests. The phones in the room were ancient. If you want a real 5 star GL experience look to Esteponna or Marbella. Long story short, this hotel is great if you're paying a 4 star price. Otherwise you should avoid it.
