“Not bad, nice service, excellent restaurant”
Good value , good service, they helped out with car rentals and excursions, cute outdoor lobby. The standard rooms are small, basic and a bit bare, OK given off season prices and Cairns tropical climate. The hotel is several long blocks from the center of Cairns, about a 15 minute walk, its in a residential neighborhood next to a big hospital (not very resorty from the outside). Internet service (in the computer room) abysmally slow. The Balinese restaurant is excellent, lively and well priced (for Australia, where the food is obscenely expensive and frankly not that good). In fact the restaurant was the best we had in 10 days in Sydney and Cairns.
“Tropical Retreat”
It was very tropical with bananas (bearing fruit) and other tropical plants almost like a forest along the pathways between buildings. The room had a generous supply of very good instant coffee and accompanyments. The hotel had coin operated laundry machines but as I recall they were pretty expensive. Their complementary airport shuttle was a plus. Security was good with access to the compound only through the lobby with a tall wrought iron fence surrounding the propery.
“We could have stayed for weeks!”
We loved Cairns! We had many excursions planned, so we were in and out all week. Bay Village was convenient, clean, had everything we needed, and the staff - regardless of time of day - were helpful and courteous. The only concerns we had were the price of the restaurant (seemed high, but the food was quite nice) and the ants (which the staff- and our tour guides- let us know were part of the climate and we quickly learned how to keep them at bay). We wish we'd had a chance to use the pool, but the rain and our busy schedule kept us from it. The bathroom was small, but servicable. The kitchen set up made life easier, with chilled water and wine glasses waiting for us. The laundry facility was definately a perk after a week and a half of traveling. The lobby, where we waited for our tours to pick us up, was large and comfy; we never felt like we didn't belong or were intruding. Next time we're in Cairns we will definately stay here again.
“A gem of a hotel”
The staff, the location, the ambiance were all perfect. It felt like we had landed in paradise, which we had. When you go there, be sure and eat in the restuarant. This authentic Balinese restuarant could not have been better. The service is attentive without being intrusive, the atmosphere is perfect and the food could not have been better. the unusual tastes and the extensive menu made us want to come back for more. When in Cairns this is the place to stay and the place to eat.
“Good hotel and location for Cairns exploration”
Only stayed 2 nights overall, one night upon arrival and one night upon departure in Cairns, but was very satisified with hotel as a place to stay that is convienient to airport and Cairns activities. Would not recommend as a 'base camp' for an extended period of time to visit areas north or south of Cairns, but perfectly fine for any stay or activities in Cairns directly.
“Great intermediate hotel”
The staff are great. The room confortable. We would stay here again. Close to all activities in Cairns.
