“Elysium failed to impress”
From the photos provided by the Elysium Apartments, you would think that you would be staying in a luxurious, spacious apartment with a large balcony from which to regard the sweeping panoramic views of the rainforest. This was not the case for my partner and I, who after our wedding and honeymoon in Port Douglas, had booked in to the Elysium Apartments for four extra nights in Palm Cove. The Elysium Apartments did not live up to their name, meaning "place of perfect happiness". As soon as we entered the apartment, we felt shut in and confined by the very enclosed balcony with privacy screen and view of the corrugated iron rooftop of the neighbouring pub. The apartment was not as spacious as the photos lead you to believe. The generally modern furniture and appliances was sadly let down by an older style, extremely small box TV which we struggled to watch from the distance of the couch. The pool also was disappointingly small and did not live up to the dimensions promised by the photographs. As if this wasn't enough, the manager was not pleasant when we had to cancel our last two nights due to a family illness (refundable under Expedia's conditions but apparently not under Elysium's conditions), and she made us feel awkward and uncomfortable. We will be returning to Palm Cove in the future, but will definitely not be staying at The Elysium Apartments. As we discovered, there are plenty of excellent accommodation options in the area.
