If you ask them, they will help youPosted Aug 17, 2013
Pros: Australian Hospitality. Both at Sydney and at Cairns the hotel reception was helpful timely. If 1BR or better and not the studio, you may be okay.
Cons: If the number of stars is your thing, then this is not for you.
Location: Nice location.
Their efficiency room was too small and kitchen wad no range. So we moved to 1BR which was spacious and had cooking facility we needed. The owners moved our room while we were away as were returning late. Next to the hotel, walking, you have public bus stop, at least two grocery stores, liqueur store, and eating places. a good Indian restaurant right next door. The city center is about a mile away. All the reef and day trips will pick you up free from this hotel. This is not a five star hotel. No Elevator. They will help you with your luggage. They will help you with all tours and day trips. Great barrier Reef trip is very convenient. The Beach esplade can be close by by bus or walk. taxis are by meter. We stay only in resorts always. But we did find the Australian hospitality to be enough to like this place.

There are definitely other places more central in Cairns that are better.

3.5 stars due to fittings issues & parking accessPosted Nov 21, 2012 on Hotels.com
Some fittings getting a little run down, washing machine in apartment failed as did toaster but staff looked after us well. Overall staff excellent and position also very handy being reasonably close to the middle of town. Clean rooms and not too noisy. The pool is quite shallow and small but the BBQ area is good and covered. Under building parking was impossible because of the sudden change of driveway slope and my hire car (a Commodore) bottomed out trying to go up or down the ramp even very slowly.

Very friendly welcomePosted Nov 23, 2011
Location: There are hotels nearer to the sea front but they tend to be high-rise and there are similarly large buildings near the harbour. A downtown location would probably be noisy as the summer season progresses.
Having arrived in the usual tired state from a long flight, the welcome we received was excellent. The manager was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It compensated for the 'tired' state of our bathroom. The hotel was styled along motel lines but proved to be comfortable and perfectly adequate for our stay. It is located about 5 -10 minutes' walk from the sea front esplanade and 15 - 20 mins from downtown Cairns. Very good value for money

Checked out after 1 night.Posted Nov 8, 2011
It is not a hotel.Hostel only. The studio room was shabby and dirty! The fridge was covered in rust with a takeaway menu stuck to it. The bed head was dusty with hairs all over it. I was there 1 night and slept on a towel on top of the bed for an hour or so. There were people up and down the tiled stair case all night slamming doors. You could not even get a bottle of water there. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Great relaxed holiday apartmentPosted Jan 12, 2011
The hosts of the Grosvenor in Cairns were extremely helpful and friendly. They made us feel very much at home and gave us great advice regarding the local area upon check-in. The apartment we stayed in was large, comfy and clean. The kitchen was well equipped so we could easily cook at the apartment when we didn't want to eat out. There is a nice warm pool and communal BBQ are outside which were great to use. Thanks for a great stay.

Far from downtown CairnsPosted Jan 4, 2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel is an average hotel. It has a kitchenette/ dining room area which is nice. It has a tiny pool; the picture makes it look big. It is far from the center of Cairns. It looks close on the map, but the blocks are loooong. They also do not make your bed and change your towels daily. No ice machine. The hotel managers (husband and wife) were nice and very helpful. It was just too far from town, no ice, and they didn't even service the room daily. I would pay more and stay closer to town.

Not impressedPosted Jul 18, 2010
My husband and myself and our 2 adult children stayed for 5 days in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. I can genuinely say that I do not complain very often but the state of this hotel was really disappointing. This hotel did not live up to our expectations or its 4 star rating. The apartment was located on the 4th floor (stairs only access). Upon opening our apartment door we were immediately overwhelmed with the an extreme musty smell which was especially strong in each bedroom. We were forced to buy air fresheners and carpet deodorant to try to hide the smell. The apartment was spacious and was generally clean but in desperate need of refurbishment, especialy the cane lounge which was old and uncomfortable. The fridge and Televisions had also seen better days. The positive point about the hotel was that its external appearance and pool facilities were more visually appealing. We had been travelling for 4 weeks and staying in mainly 4 star hotels aong the easten coast of Australia and I would have to say this would be the worst we had stayed in and we were all very relieved to move on. So although clean and spacious and reasonably close to city centre and the Esplanade (20 minue walk), the poor condition of the furnishings and the overepowering musty smell mae our stay an unpleasent one

In our time managing Grosvenor in Cairns we have only had a couple of what could be termed "negative" reviews, counted however by many more that are positive (you can't please all of the people all of the time - even though we try to). None the less, it is always disappointing to hear that a guest has not had a pleasant and comfortable stay with us, particularly so when the guest has made no mention of any problem or concern at the time of their arrival, during their entire stay or at checkout time. We remember these guests as a pleasant and friendly family. We gained the impression that they were not particularly pleased about being up on the 3rd floor (we do not have a 4th floor) but when you do not book well in advance for a stay during "the busy season" it is a reality that the apartments on the lower and ground floor will be sold out by the time you do get around to booking. The information displayed on the Expedia website clearly indicates that Grosvenor is a 3 storey walk up apartment complex without a lift. In relation to the standard of our accommodation; our 4 Star rating is arrived at by an independent assessor on behalf of AAA Tourism and the assessment process evaluates all aspects of a complex, including cleanliness and the the standard of facilities. The vast majority of our guests provide us with very positive feedback. We do not believe it is fair or reasonable to describe the conditions of the furnishings within the apartments as "poor". We do not have large, luxurious leather couches or 40" plasma TV's in the apartments (not yet anyway) but the furniture and TV is generally comfortable and serviceable for it's intended use - a holiday apartment. With regards to the musty smell in the apartment - unfortunately it is one of the hazards of living in a tropical zone that rooms not occupied for a few days can sometimes develop a musty odour. We guard against that by airing rooms that have not been used on a rotating basis but sometimes we might miss one (apparently) or some people just have an extraordinary sensitive sense of smell. In any case, had something been said straight away we would certainly have taken action to either fix the problem or we would have relocated the guests to another apartment. It is however pleasing to hear that even these guest regarded our complex as being "visually appealing" & "clean and spacious and reasonably close to the City centre".
